Mystery item on my Big Dummy...

    Hi folks,

I bought a used 2011 Big Dummy on craigslist here in Colorado this year. There is a part mounted to the frame at the back I haven't been able to identify, Can you guys help? Notice that there are two different interfaces - one on each side of the frame:

    Thanks for your help!

I've never seen a picture of the bike with it "installed." That's not where, or how, it shipped from Surly, and you'd be safe to remove it and leave it in a toolbox (where it is at would also prevent the use of the wide loaders).

In the 3+ years I've had my BD, I've never had the need to straighten any of the tubes. Especially having a rack installed, I don't see how they'd ever get bent to begin with.

I've kept mine (whatever it's called) with the plan to one day chuck it up in a lathe and turn it into something more useful.
