Thule echelon on 4Runner Factory Cross Rails

    Hi all,

I'm hoping someone out there has does this but I'm trying to think of ways to modify the mount of a Thule echelon so that it will mount on a factory cross rail without having to use the Thule Ride on Adapter - which is cheaper than replacing the side rails all together. I'll consider any options. I'm just thinking that there must be a way to do this!!! Someone must have done it before me. I've thought about possibly drilling a hole through my cross rail so that I could 'mimic' the setup of the Thule aero bar - with the track in it. Although doing so would mean I have no options in moving the echelon around.

    Any help would be appreciated!

The echelon mounting clip is problematic, it attaches the rack to a Thule Cross bar profile at best. My bikes have fallen off the rack due to the faulty clips, I would not trust it to clamp around anything other than the Thule shape bar although it is marketed to be more versitile. Maybe look into the Domestique, it looks to be more secure around oddly shaped cross bars.
