    Tailgate pads? Hauling 4 bikes?

What do you guys think of the pads that attach to the tailgate and you just hang your bike over the tailgate? Any problems with cables rubbing? I need to haul 4 bikes around on occasion and can't tie them all down. Help please!

No need for a fancy pad, I use an old sleeping bag folded over a few times. I've fit up to 7 on the tailgate of a full size truck.

I don't have cables on my downtube, so it's never been a problem. You may want some protection like a rag between bike and cables if you do.

I've got a loading pad from Home Depot that lives under the back seat in my truck. For shuttling/short rides, I'll just throw the bike over the gate, for longer rides, I'll use a tie down ratchet strap to hold the bikes in place.

I think the pad was $5 or so on sale.
