Can't help with the roof rack pic but I can recommend the Kuat Sherpa. Picked one up used on the classifieds here. Lightweight (relative to the T2), simple and easy to use.

If you're eventually planning on getting a hitch rack.... I'd say cheap out and get a Yakima Copperhead

I had a RM Pitchfork on my '89 Jetta (similar to that tierod you are looking at). The price couldn't be beat and it is well built, but it requires two lock cylinders per carrier. I also wasn't a fan of the quick release type mount for the front fork. It was sometimes a pain to adjust and in no time at all it start binding making it difficult to latch/unlatch (needs to be regularly cleaned and lubed).

I much prefer my Thule fork mount carriers. They only require one lock core and I haven't had to mess with them once in the 5 years I have used them. Plus they are super easy to adjust for different bikes/forks.

    Thule/Yakima mix

I have flat Cherokee roof rails on a Grand Cherokee, with Thule bars and a Yakima Box. I also have some Yakima upright bike racks, but took them off a while back because it makes the bike ends up being something like 12 feet above ground. Bikes fit great in the back anyway and also lessens the theft possibility. The Cherokee rails are flat and a bit stronger than stock, plus they are easier to get bases for. I pretty much tossed the whole stock roof rack system and have had no problems with this setup. I like the look of square bars on a squarish vehicle as well.

No pic but I have a Tie-Rod mount on my 2002 Nissan Xterra. I really like the low profile of it and it will fit any cross bar made. Bolted mine directly to the factory FAT bars. Works like a champ. I ordered to lock cores ($14). I am planning to buy a second one in the next few months. You will be pleased.

I had to do the same on my Imprezza, it's either that or you can't open the hatch door... Backwards work just as well.

    Roof Rack Pics

My roof rack set up for my Subaru arrived Monday, but I've been so busy with work that I haven't have anytime to put it up! Hopefully I can do it this weekend because I need to hit the trails! Otherwise I might go insane lol

What do you guys use to protect your car's paint from the roof rack feet rubbing on it? Helicopter tape? Any recommendations on a brand or a place to get it? Thanks, all.

If you get some towers and wider crossbars you can mount the tray on the outside of the towers (i.e to the left of the tower) and allow your hatch to open unobstructed. Did this on my 05 WRX wagon.
