New ride, new rack, please help! V DUB!

Hello all. I just purchased a jetta sport wagon and need roof rack help. I have been a 1 up user for quite some time and know nothing about roof systems. Can anyone recommend a system? Would like to go fork mount. Want to spend the least possible, but don't want a POS either. Is $400 enough? Any input would be great. Thanks.

Thule works with VW to setup fit. Yakima will work just as well. My recommendation would be to stick to these two brands and buy whichever you find a better deal on.

Thanks for the reply. Are the lower profile cross bars worth the extra cash? I priced out a yakama system for $325 shipped. Seems like a good deal.

Also look for deals on the factory cross bars (check out VWVortex for sponsor posts...1stvwparts.com also usually has great deals on factory accessories). I found mine for my MKV Rabbit for a good $100 less than the Thule or Yakima equivalents. Not as low profile as Thule or Yakima but I'm only getting a 1-2 mpg drop with mine which is pretty much what the users of the aftermarket brands report.

Put a hitch on your JSW and use your 1 Up. Cost me $150 and about 45 minutes of my time.

My primary bike hauling is via hitch installed on my passat wagon with a 1upusa hitch rack.

If you really want a roof system, buy from Cracks and Racks, as they do sponsor this section.

    you'll need 48" bars, iirc.

    Grab a 6-pack of locks.

For the fork mount: Yakima 2100 CopperHead Fork Mount Bike Rack for Roof Sport Rack ... nice and basic.

However, if you have a thru-axle, that changes things.

Is 1upsua for the roof not an option for you?
