    Kuat Vagabond...to modify or not?

I recently purchased a Kuat Vagabond rack and I love it. I thought of getting a hitch and going that route...but i liked the option of hauling cargo/bikes all with one rack (affordability was a major factor as well). The only thing i'm not huge on is that it only has mounts for two bikes.

After looking at Kuat's Dirtbag mounts, and talking with a welder friend, i'm considering buying two of the Dirtbags and welding them on to the rack to fit 4 bikes. It would still meet the load limits for the rack at full capacity and wouldn't take up any noticeable space....any thoughts?

    Here's the existing setup...

and a rough sketch of my idea...

(obviously i'd make sure everything would fit for four bikes).
