    Kuat Sherpa Wheel Base!

    Hello,

I bought a Sherpa and didn't pay attention to the wheelbase requirements which is 44.5. Unfortunately the wheelbase on my mountain bike is 46.02. I have been told others use the rack with longer bikes and DH bikes so I was wondering if others have this issue and whether they have had issues.

    Thanks in Advance,

I have a '13 specialized enduro which has a 45.5"+ wheelbase and have a Sherpa. Fit's fine. The rear wheel cradle does sit at an angle, but I assumed that it was suppose to.

    2 years, no issues.
How can anyone who's been riding as long as I have, be so slow???

Yeah that is what concerned me the most but the rear tire doesn't sit to low to the ground so I figured it would be fine. I love the ease of use for sure.

I just got one yesterday and also didn't pay attention to the wheelbase... My bike has 46.4" wheelbase. My concerns are that the rear wheel sticks out beyond the rearview mirror, and the angle of the rear wheel cradle is too much... If there was a way to move the front tire cradle two inches forward then it would fit just fine. There is space to move it, but it would require some modification... I'm going to wait and call Kuat about this. I really like the rack so I hate to return it....

    Rock,
What kind of car are you using? I'm a little more worried about how far the wheel and tire sticking out from the side of the car.

Old WRX Wagon. The wheels stick out on both sides, but not any more than the mirrors. The bike definitely sits at an angle when on the rack, tail down, but I never feel that it's unstable at all. It works for me.

I went to trail over an hour from the house and had no problems. I drive a VW Jetta and the rear wheel sticks out a little more than I would like but my bike was stable and it's easy to use so I'll stick with it.
    Thanks,

We have been selling the Sherpa for many years, and really reserve it for the leisure bike crowd. L or XL 29ers with raked out front end will have long wheelbases and it can be difficult to mount, like you are experiencing.
Of course, since you already have this rack, it might be hard to return, but Kuat is going to be releasing the Kuat Transfer shortly, which is a great option, especially since it comes in a 3-bike variation, and has a very nice price point.

Same issue here - Sherpa wheelbase spec not large enough for L sized 29er.

Any ETA on Kuat Transfer rack availability?
