Difference between Swagman XTC and XC?

I'm confused on the difference between the XTC and the XC. The Swagman website isn't clear to me on what the deal is. Whatever the difference, is it worth the additional $73? Amazon has the XC for $111 and the XTC for $184. I appreciate any possible info.

The only difference is the wheel trays. The XTC's are beefier and better looking. Whether it's worth the extra money is up to you. I've had the XC for about 8 months. It's fine, you're going to get what you pay for for an entry level platform rack. The three little locking pins for locking the arms in position have not held up well, though they could probably be replaced with something stainless with a cotter pin from a hardware store. The other thing I've mentioned before is that the plastic knobs for adjusting your wheel base come with flat washers. You really need to add a lock washer so the knob doesn't back off the threads. This will run you about 15 cents. Otherwise it's been fine.

Thanks jonz. I thought the difference was the wheel trays but I saw some conflicting info. I'm not going to be using it real often so I'm fine with entry level, and making a few mods if needed. In general both of them have good reviews.

For anyone wondering in the future, in doing some research I learned about another apparent difference (or two). For the XTC the wheel straps are supposed to be different (better?), and maybe more important - at least for those with lower profile vehicles (I drive a truck) - the extension bar on the XC is supposedly straight while for the XTC it curves up to give more ground clearance. I'll see. I just ordered an XTC.

I believe the old XC's had a straight bar, but the one's sold today have a riser bar as well. It has a 5" rise. But you've reminded me that when I was buying my rack, I had to call Swagman for this info because it was impossible to determine from their website.

The XC doesn't have any wheel straps, which has always made me curious as to whether the straps on the XTC are really necessary or whether it's just one added layer of safety.

I think you made a good decision upgrading to the XTC, I kinda wish I had.
