Bike bag for bike on roof or hitch rack?

Thinking about driving over the mountains from Denver to Fruita when weather is shitty. Does anyone make a "bag" to keep road grime, etc. off your bike while it's on a roof mounted rack?

Probably would be better on back. Something like the Topeak Bike cover works for wheel-hold, and fork mounts work with minor adaption.

The problem with the roof, is that adding a bag just creates a giant sail that becomes really sketchy at highway speeds, or even in a decent crosswind. A hitch mount misses most of the "giant sail" effect.

I can't imagine it's going to do anything but make a whole lot of noise and possibly damage the finish on the bike with all the flapping. And yes, the "sail effect" will probably be there also. I've seen something for usually road bikes on top of the car that looked like a "bra" that just went across the handle bars and back to the seat. That could help, but I don't know what your ultimate goal is, to completely enclose or just minimize grime build up. Some company named Skinz does several types.
How can anyone who's been riding as long as I have, be so slow???

One thing the Harley guys do when trailering their garage queens is wrap them tight in kitchen cling wrap. I could see that on a bike, at least the controls and tubes. Wheels wouldn't work.

Yeah this would be probably the best way to do it.
