    squeaking lefty?

    Hey there,

So I bought a new Scalpel 29er 3 a few weeks ago, I absolutely love the bike, such a fast bike.

The only thing that is a bit annoying is that every ride I go out on, after about a mile or two i develop a squeak in the front hub. it's not break related, it almost sounds like rubber squeaking against something.

Any thoughts? I don't want to be that guy that is always running to the shop to fix ghost issues.

    Thanks,

    John

This issue has been mentioned on this forum numerous time....the search function is your best friend....
Remove axle cap, take out O-ring from axle bolt, replace axle cap, done.
Be aware of the cap being reverse threaded.
If you don't want to remove the O-ring a few drops of oil inside that gap between axle bolt and cap will help.

Some great info in those threads.
These are 6-3 year old threads. I guess you'll never see them if you don't do a search.

Is there a good picture where this bushing is at? I have a Flash 29r carbon and have had my bike to the LBS about 3 times for this, and they keep greasing it and still there.

A good picture of the bushing and exactly where it is would be great!

    Thanks a lot!

I love this bike, but the squeal is almost making me think about trading it in!

Bad bearing, rotor warped a touch and contacting the pads, that mouse you thought you finally killed last winter?

    Hey Thanks!
So I took ti back to the LBS after searching this forum, and this time we removed the grey dust cover washer looking thing.

Squeak is still back! Is there a better bearing I could be using, and how many bearings are there in that hub of my flash carbon 3 29r'

Also the rotor spins fine, no touching.
    Thanks a lot guys!

Sounds like you either need to give us more info, like how and when it does, whatever it is it does.

Or, the shop needs to stop simply removing things and handing the bike back to you, and actually undertake a systemic approach aimed towards getting to the bottom of it....

Two bearings, and quality isn't really at issue, any bearing should be silent, if it's not, it's simply bad, cheap or not.

    Thanks Mendon,

It sounds like crickets, and it is usually when the wheel is turning and has load on it and going at a good rate of speed.

I should also add Im 290lbs. Which might be the real issue too. Limit is 300lb on these bikes.

    Black spokes I'm guessing?

If so, wheel tension. You running a decently beefy rim? I would be, and a nice tight built wheel too.

Guys I wanted to update my "lefty Squeak"

Turned out it wasn't coming from the front,, but the rear disk piston not releasing all the way!!!!! I could have swore it was coming from the front of the bike!

Wow I'm glad this got sorted OUT!

Now bike is back to being silky smooth. They backed the pads out, and did something with the piston.

So my advice, have a few others listen and look at where that noise is coming from,, could be the opposite end that needs addressing.
