I'm about to go 1x10 on my Jekyll and wanted to look into my options for a Dyad travel adjust remote given the newly available cockpit real-estate. Jerome Clementz controls his Dyad using a gripshift, and I'm wondering if I'd have similar success using the XT M780 2x10 trigger front shifter currently on my bike. This would be a pretty easy thing to test out but I wanted to see if anyone has done it.
I've been thinking about this since I saw that video with Jerome Clementz bike too. I think as long as it pulls enough cable to engage short travel mode you would be fine. The shock pulls the cable back when you put in flow mode.
I think it should work (unless Jérôme's shifter is modified internally), front derailleurs pretty much all have a similar cable pull ratio (I've mixed and matched many different models/brands/mtb-road front derailleurs and shifters and all the combos I have tried worked).
I just installed a grip shift I bought on Ebay for ten bucks to control the Dyad on my Claymore. It works flawlessly and now the cockpit is much cleaner. New cockpit - Imgur
I didn't have to modify the shifter at all. I just bought a new shifter cable, and plugged one end into the grip shift, and the other fits right into the top of the Dyad shock. It took just a little bit of adjustment to get the tension just right, but afterward it worked flawlessly.
I'm pretty sure I just used a cheap 3 speed grip shifter I found on eBay for five bucks. Doesn't really matter since you'll only be using two of the three positions of the shifter. Pretty sure I used a new shifter cable when I did the modification. It's been a while. Buy the upgrade is so worth the time. It works and looks way better than the stock Dyad lever. Let us know how it turns out. Oh, also I needed to buy new lock on grips designed for integration with a grip shifter (they're shorter than standard grips). You could probably just cut a regular one and only clamp it on one side, but I wanted it to look and feel perfect.
Gonna get the Jekyll soon, but ironing out some details like why the one at my lbs comes with MT6 instead of MT7 n figuring out how to mount SRAM RS Guide brakes n rotors on the lefty...
Good evening everyone, I have a quick question, does anyone know how much movement/pull on the cable is needed to activate the short travel mode on the Dyad? I am upgrading my XFusion shocks to a Dyad and see if I can use the existing remote.
I'm using a 2sp sram XO gripshift for the remote. You have to partially depress the spool when you tighten up the cable set screw to get the proper pull.
This is the exact setup I'm using on my Jekyll. I ditched the 2x for a single and use the XT front shifter to switch between long/short travel mode on my shock. There werent any special modifications necessary to make it work.
The spool on the DYAD that the cable goes up through. When you tighten the little 2mm set screw down on the cable, if it's in the fully extended/ no tension position, you won't get enough cable pull to switch it to the short travel mode. Therefor you have to push it down a few mm when you set the cable position so the spool starting spot isn't quite fully out.
Hi everyone did the mod using an XO 2sp, one question how do you know that its switching from long to short 100%? How much does that black aluminum part "where there is the grub screw that holds the cable" need to travel down in order to activate the shock?
I found after I removed my left shifter during a 1x conversion I had space to mount the dyad and reverb remotes. They are now both much easier to access and engage and are protected during whenst the bike is inverted. The dyad remote release-button thingy can also be pushed by either the forefinger or thumb.
Anyone on here still have a spare dyad lever they might be willing to sell me?
