    Scalpel Ultimate Vs Scalpel 1

Price is always a factor, but how much more better is the 2013 Scalpel Ultimate for MSRP $11K versus the -1 for MSRP $7600. Both have carbon wheels .... What do you guys think?

    - X0 crank v hollowgrams
    - X0 vs XTR + magura mt8
    - Reynolds v Enve
    - The worst colour scheme Cannondale have come up with v stealth black

I'd rather get the 2 if I couldn't afford the ultimate.

Those are all pretty good points ... I think the USA version of the Ultimate has XX shifters, and not XT, which would be a compromise for me, just because I prefer Shimano ergonomics....

It would be tough to take an Ultimate over a -1 with a Alloy F29 as an aftermarket upgrade though....

+1 on worst color scheme! looks even as bad in person (rode one at eurobike demo day)

Scalpel 3 and 4 color should have been on 2 and 3 me thinks.. The matt black Ultimate is just amazing!

Just seen the Scalpel 1. Definitely get the Ultimate. Whilst the Ultimate looks like Batman owns it, the Scalpel 1 looks like it's been puked on.

+1 on the color combo on the Scalpel 1. Normally I don't give comment on colors but that one is just.. Let's just say I'd rather to ride a pink bike.

So I'm the only one who likes the 1's color? I guess I'll have super good deals later on when they haven't sold any!

Dan , you may be on to something. Please don't let it get out that I'm a triathlete, but I kind of like the -1 and think the consensus on the color scheme might drive a market response.

supposedly yes. i've talked to a couple of dealers who have mentioned that a second colour has been added for the scalpel 29er 1... but it is not on the website so caveat emptor.

Can't say that the blue & red combination is looking too good on either bike..

Unless they changed the spec for 2013, the 2012 had full XTR everything which despite me thinking the price is crazy I much prefer over the SRAM. So far the 2 guys with them down here seem quite pleased with them, bleeding the Shimano brakes is definitely an easy job and they seem to be working more consistently than the high end SRAM offerings I've seen around on S-Works etc.

I am glad I picked up a used (2 rides) 2012 Ultimate. The reason for the black is
minimal paint and I like where you see raw carbon . I love the black!

I have been debating/researching 29 full suspensions for over a year. To me, the scalpel ultimate was the best riding bike out there. The stealth black is also the best looking bike out there. I broke down and went for the Ultimate a couple weeks ago. Just rode Grand Junction/UNcompaghre Plateau trials, and Moab Whole Enchilada for 5 full days. It's only 5 days, but I love the bike. Ultra fast, stiff yet 100m of travel is more than enough plush. It's a 2012 so xtr rear derail and brakes, but xx up front. enve rims are amazing. I got lucky and even though its a 2012, cannondale put the 2013 shock on it (no rubber housing). I've been riding a titus racer x ti for 11 years, so if you hold on to bikes for a long time I think it's worth it to spend up, even though it's a painful spend. In the midst of any climb or downhill though, I was totally satisfied thinking it was worth the extra to go for the Ultimate.
