    Rize 3 broken swingarm

Well after 550miles of all mountain trail riding I landed a small hill jump about 2feet high and snapped the swingarm on the right side just behind the BB. Now the warranty process begins. Will keep you updated.

For as obvious as that is a bad weld...............

And for as surprisingly easy as it was for me to take my ENTIRE rear triangle apart to clean and regrease..........................

I would think Cdale could have a new swing arm out to your LBS by 2 day air today!!!

I think the RIZE is the perfect example of why an all mountain rig shouldn't be overly lightweight....
The RIZE's keep snapping left and right.....I think they are a bad replacement for the Prophet which was (and still is) a true all-rounder.....

Thanks for the responses. Where did you see other posts of Rizes snapping left and right. I would like to have some of that data to back me up.

Just from my personal observation on here and out riding, I dont think the Rize is any worse than any other bike of the same catagory.

I think the issue is that Prophet was so fricken bomb proof and did anything you wanted and wanted more. After a 4 ft drop, if you listened carefully, your Prophet snickered, "That's your best, wake me when you really want to ride".

I owned a Prohet and now a Rize. With the Prophet, I just pointed it downhill, let the brakes off and held on for dear life. It just went over everything it seamed. I have to be a little more selective with my line on my Rize, but the Rize climbs better and "rails" turns better too.

Ouch! Sorry for the Compound Tib/Fib Fracture...
Yea that reminded me of my left lower leg injury. It snapped like a twig. You guys should see the x-rays! I'll post them in the....... I guess injury section. Anyways, should I worry about my rize one? It's comming home to me in 1 week.
    Thanks fellow MTBR's.

LBS closed on Mondays...dangit! Dropped it off today and they told me with any luck I should have a new swing arm by the weekend. The bike mech. that works there has the exact same bike as mine and he hasn't had any problems...so far. I mentioned that I was concerned there may have been further damage to the frame when the swing arm broke and he assured me they would put the allignment tool on it to make sure all is well. I'll let y'all know how it goes.

Cannondale agrees it is a warranty issue and the new swing arm is enroute. I should have her back by Wednesday! Until then I will use my bomb proof 14year old never broke Super-V.

No loaner and still no swingarm. I got tired of the BS from my LBS so I called Cannondale customer service. They contacted the local sales rep who contacted my LBS to find out what was up. The guy at the shop told her that they were having a hard time reaching me. I have been calling them almost every day so that pissed me off. Cannondale informed me that I will be getting a new 2010 RZ140 frame set(Black), not including the lefty. Upon getting that info I called the LBS to see what they found out and they informed me that I will be getting a new swing arm(Matte Black). I told them that I was under the impression that I would be getting a new frame but they still said swing arm only. So I called Cannondale again to reconfirm and relay what the LBS just told me and they said NO....you will be getting a new frame set and that it will be several weeks before I get it. Let me just say also that the guy at the shop said the new swing arm will be here in time for me to ride by this weekend. So I ask you all WTF!!??

WOW! So the LBS is saying they are only getting a swing arm, and cannondale says they are sending the whole frameset?

Sounds like the LBS is scamming you - they get the frame set and just give you the swing arm. And they were hoping you wont find out. FRAUD FRAUD FRAUD!!! Or at the very least - SHENANIGANS!!!

I agree here. Something is up or the LBS just has no clue. Keep in contact with Cdale and get a ship date. My LBS was able to give me ship dates of my frame from Cdale.

The bad thing about the new frame is you have to swap all your parts. With the swing arm, all you need to do is the RD, rear brake and wheel. The swing arm is fairly easy to swap out.

This is what i was asking, who is entailed to the undamaged front triangle ? I would expect Cannondale would be wanting it back, as the parts that are being replaced are at there expense, why should the shop profit from the used front triangle..!

That's a load of bullsh!t. Is this the shop owner that is telling you this or an employee?? If it is the employee then I suggest that you talk to the owner, if it is the owner then I would call Cannondale from your LBS with the shop owner present before they ship the frame. Ask them to confirm that they are sending the entire frame and humiliate him, then ask that Cannondale send your frame to another authorized bike shop. You can then go on to state that you do not want to do business with crooks and that it is a shame that the Cannondale name is marred by dishonest and unethical Reps like this one.
Apologies for my harsh response, but I cut people like that no slack. I think that it is ridiculous that they get away with scams like this. This guy is trying to get a free bike at your expense, that is just wrong.

In response to all that believe that this bike shop has no clue, well I disagree. I think that they know very well that Cannondale is sending an entire frame or else they would not have B.S'ed Cannondale about not being able to contact the owner. Either someone is going to get a free bike to sell or they are planning on keeping it for their own.

The owner has no clue because when my frame broke I called him and he said I had to call Cannondale. Of course when I called C'dale they told me to call my LBS. This whole time though I have been dealing with the shop mechanic who is probably 20 years old. They are the only Cannondale dealer within 120Miles or else I would have definitely moved on by now. I'm going to see what happens tomorrow. If they try to pass off a rear swing arm only then we are going face to face with a speaker phone call to the factory

Sounds like the 20 year old is trying to get a new bike.

    Either way here you go:

If you haven't already been to the dealer locator. If you have and the nearest one is that far away then I know the feeling.

My closest Cdale dealer is 700 miles away. It has never been a problem for me.

My point is, if I was in your situation I wouldn't mind spending a bit on getting the frame shipped to me just to stay away from those morons. It's obvious they'll go the extra mile just to screw you.

if Cannondale is saying they're giving you a whole new frame and the LBS says its just swapping out the swingarm on your bike, then I'd definitely would be following up on that closely. Who knows if the LBS has an extra swingarm laying around and then someone gets a deal on a pieced together bike?... my friend was at this LBS and they had a GF Superfly Carbon frame they were "supposed" to cut and trash. my friend got it for $300...what a steal!

Keep in touch with the Cannondale folks....if they say you're getting a whole new frame, make sure you get a whole new frame.

I had a frame warranteed by C'dale late last summer. The old one is still sitting, in tact, on a shelf at the LBS.

To the OP: I think you've gotten great advice here to deal directly with C'dale as much as possible, and let them know the full story so they're painfully aware that what they're telling you and what the shop is telling you are two very different things. I wouldn't automatically assume the shop is up to no good - they might just be really poor at communicating with C'dale or vice-versa. C'dale may have originally told the shop that they would be sending a swingarm only, only to discover that they didn't have any they could send (can anyone confirm whether there are any swingarm differences between the Rize and RZ?), and thus decided to send you a complete frame....it really doesn't take much to distract a 20 year-old these days.
I can barely get my mouth around it.

The Cannondale tech support guy told me that the RZ140 and the Rize Three are the same frame with the only difference being the longer travel suspension. And the rear swing arm has had some design improvements to prevent the failure I had.

Did you ask if it was only the front travel that was longer on the RZ140 ? Cause the rear travel on the Rize was measured at 146mm by a German Magazine...

I had called to ask them if my 130mm travel front and rear shocks would be compatible on the RZ140. His response is that they are the same geometry and that is why the replacement frame will not come with the shocks.

Were you able to resolve the discrepancies between what C'dale and your LBS are saying? You're implying that C'dale is still saying you're getting the full frame...and are they sending the alloy or carbon version?

Cool. I'm currently awaiting delivery of a RZ140 carbon to replace my carbon Scalpel. 3.5 weeks ago C'dale told me 4 weeks, so I'm hoping it arrives early next week.

This is the third time I've had a warranty replcement from C'dale, and each time their delivery estimates were spot on.

    thats right
the differenz between the old rize and the rz on40 is zero
same damper length, same stroke, same linkage/pivot arm

there is no difference between the rize and the "new" rz one40

I called the shop today at around 1530hrs and they said it was out for delivery but they did not get there shipments yet today. Any other time I checked they always received their UPS by 1430. Anyways I again questioned them about it only being a swingarm and they said "that's what they were told but if the whole frame shows up that would be good". So of course now they are closed until Teusday and I did not get a call, imagine that!

So I called again today and the dude was out and will not be back until Tuesday. I asked if the delivery was made and no one new of any and they said no deliveries on Saturday. I thought UPS did delivered on Saturday.

Hey cooter, the easiest way to see if your lbs is bull****ting you is by looking at the warranty tag.
That's right! If you get only a swing arm it'll have one attached to it that'll say swing arm with that you can call cannondale and verify the barcode.
If you get a whole frame set, the warranty tag will say so too!
You need that warranty sticker for future claims so make sure you receive it!
Cannondale doesn't send replacement frame parts or frame sets without a tag attached!

My prediction: The LBS will get the frameset, but they know the gig is up and the customer is on to them. So when the frameset comes in, they will play stupid and say "well waddya know, we thought they were sending a swing arm but they sent the whole thing"

Kinda related question: When cannondale does a warranty replacement, does the customer have to pay labor to the shop to switch the parts over?

I'm thinking the same thing. The whole frame set is going to show up. I believe you do not pay labor under warranty.

You have to pay to swap the parts, I think...
