Replacement for Trail SL2 29er fork - suggestions?

I've had my Trail SL2 29er, 2013 for about a year. It's got a 1.5" steerer, not tapered (if I'm honest I'm not 100% certain what that means) , which I now understand is not common, so could be problematic to replace, as I think the existing Recon Silver, 80mm, has seen better days.

I'd like a little more travel, and always found the Recon a bit stictiony.

Can anyone suggest what I can do/get as a reasonable replacement.

Can I assume a budget of 400 uk?

    Thanks

    Chris

you dont have to run a 1.5 inch straight steerer. they make headsets that will adapt your current headtube to anything you could want to run.

That is a good budget to work with. I would suggest a Manitou Tower (check pricepoint) or a Rockshox Reba. Both are solid forks. and stiction is a result of not servicing your fork unless it it utter garbage.
