New question here. proprietary parts on RZ 140

thanks to all who offered up info on my RZ 140 & Prophet threads....
Now I need to take a step back and get educated.

    1. BB30
I ran into someone today with an RZ 140 (which I will have soon) and they explained that the BB30 Bottom Bracket has to be PRESSED into the RZ 140 frame with a proprietary tool only available from C-dale.
Plus he had to buy the BB from them too.

I noticed he still had the outward XT BB bearings...so I'm not sure what he actually pressed in.

Does someone have a pic of the BB shell on the RZ...and the part that is pressed in?

    2. Headset: The guy also told me that I need to use a proprietary headset for the RZ 140. I thought the HT was a 1.5 standard. I wanted to use my cane creek zero stack reducer.

My LBS did not tell me I had to buy a headset from C-dale.

    1. The bearings have to be pressed into the bottom bracket. Check this tool http://www.parktool.com/product/home...up-press-hhp-3

Also watch this video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Av6FPnbajQ . It's in spanish, but it looks pretty good.

    2. Are you installing a lefty?

    i'll check the vid...thanks.

    1. When I buy the adaptor and have it pressed in, do I need a set of ADAPTORS that screw into the BB30....THEN my XT bearings go in?
Or does the BB30 set up ELIMINATE my XT outward bearings?

    check these out...

    2. No Lefty...a PIKE 454 which has been Pushed.
I have conflicting info...the latest I found was that the RZ 140 is a standard 1.5 head tube.
If so, I can use my CC reducer from my prophet.

do you know if this is possible?

It's all explained very well in the owner's manual. Check out pages 12-15 and it will describe what you need to do depending on what type of BB/Crank you want to run.

Page 18 illustrates what what headset you need to use. The headtube is a propriety size and only 3 headsets will work with it.

The BB30 is a waste of $$. get the C'dale adapter and stuff in your regular XT BB. unfortunately finding the press tool is tough or at least it was for me. I bought one since no bike shops had one. I have one for sale.

as for the headset, yes, it's proprietary. get it though. it's integrated and is zero stack. Not sure if anything else will work. Cane Creek makes it for C'dale specific. I'm sure there might be stuff out there now but I build mine last year and nothing was available as an inexpesive solution.

thanks for this...I saw it but didn't catch the HS section.
Again...beating a dead horse....I have a 1.5 Cane Creeek XX Flush Headset that reduces to 1 1/8. It was like butter on my Prophet, and I'm assuming it will work on the RZ 140 fine.
I called Cane Creek when I had my Prophet and they reccommended it.

The RZ head tube is 1.5 correct? The pdf document says it...
Not sure why people say I have to order from C-dale UNLESS it truly is propietary and NOT 1.5 but some odd number like 1.56. Then I would finally understand.

thanks again for the info. It helps a bunch.
