Vance, you should also change up some of that sunshine for the liquid variety and gray skies from western WA.

Send up the sunshine bro, so we can dry out!

Nice bike--I am trying to figure out which 29er to buy.

I'll admit the paint's over the top. It does have a little yellow in it, though. Like a jalapeno sunrise. And who doesn't like a jalapeno sunrise?!

    It's an awesome little bike.

    Here's a pic from this weekend's Hammerhead 100.

What size frame are you riding? I'm 5'6" and am considering the medium.

2007 Scalpel Team Replica. Purchased it last month 100% stock. Decided I like Shimano's trigger shifters more, so changed the drivetrain to 100% XTR. This bike climbs like a goat...absolutely love it.

    2010 Scalpel 4

    Dear All,

My favorite ride (V 2000) just bit the dust, the headshock isn't repairable anymore. A 2010 Scalpel 4 is available for purchase so I've decided to go get it today.

I have been lurking and contributing to the Super V forum for a few years and have now read all the great postings on this forum, THANKS! Certainly enough info has been digested to motivate me to getting the Scalpel; however, I'm overwhelmed.

I would like to ask if anyone would please tell me how to understand two things that pop out to me: 1. Is there anything I need to watch out for because of the aluminum/carbon frame and 2. Any specific suggestions on where to start with replacing components to lighten the bike would be greatly appreciated.

I've been riding for years and enjoyed the relative short wheelbase of the V's. Trying out later much longer wheelbase Cannondale mountain bikes has left me unimpressed. However riding that 2010 Scalpel was pleasurable and the price was right.

    Thank you in advance, Tommy

    2010 Scalpel 4

Well upon closer inspection the bike turned out to be more than I originally thought since it was listed for sale as a "Scalpel 4".

It is a Cannondale close-out bike with an array of components. First off it has a carbon Lefty. It had sram components as listed in the 2010 catalogue showing the Scalpel 2. The bottom bracket is BB30 as listed in the same catalogue. The only things on it listed in the 2010 catalogue for the Scalpel 3 is the aluminum front triangle and aluminum link (frog).

Anyway, I had no problem forking over the cash and proudly bringing it home.

It now has the 10/1 XT Shadow drive train off my previous bike as well as a few other components I like better than what came on it. It weighs in at under 25 pounds ready to ride as configured.

The replacement 1.75 tires work well in the riding conditions here, mostly pavement and hard pan trails with a very thin layer of cedar shavings covering short distances.

    A couple photos are attached.

    Thanks for looking, Tommy

Looks Awesome No better way to spend ones time than on a lefty.

What modifications do you have on the bike?

I have a Scalpel 1... I'm looking to change my hubs to project 321, any thoughts?

    Thanks for your input...

Torque, no thoughts on the hubs as I have never tried them. The sun hub that comes with the stock wheelset has fallen apart on me once already though. Vancemac, thats a cyclocross tube. Probably overkill, but there are an insane amount of rocks where I live. I also bought the crankskins frame kit and did most of the bike with it. After 750 miles, everything is still great.

Thanks for your reply, did you order the 8mil or 12mil kit from crankskins?
How well do the crankskins protect the bike?

The 8mil iirc. Its just the generic kit as they dont make a custom one for the scalpel yet. You have to do some cutting here and there. But its been on since december with no issues. I didnt follow thier instructions and instead used soapy water, layed the film down, then finshed it with a hair dryer to form it nicely to the frame. Protects great against scratches...dont know what will happen if a sizable rock hits it...we'll see.
