I just got a 2011 Scalpel. Has anyone tried anything different with rear brake line routing? I"m thinking straight up the "seat stay" and along the top tube like the old Scalpel?

I have been thinking about the same thing.. I would prefer this as well If only for esthetic reasons.
Cable routing along the Shock needs to be different than before. The mounting point is now an integral part of the Frame and doesn't leave much room to feed a cable trough.
Does anyone know the reason they changed this?

    Hi!

Is your scalpel an XL size? How tall are you? I am having some troubles to define myself between L and XL since I am 190cm (6'3") tall and from BB to top of the saddle I have 81cm (32 inches).

    Thanks

    HI

Yes it's an XL frame, I'm 193cm tall and BB-seat for me is 78. So I have shortish legs but long upper torso.
I like the XL very much, although its quite long but woudn't want to have it any other way.
Hope that helps.. In the end maybe you need to try some bikes out in the Shop. I drove some different race bikes, some were L and some XL, thats how I found out.. (my old hardtail was a size smaller, now i cant believe i waited this long to buy an new bigger bike!)

I would go for the XL. I am 6'2" and that is what I had. It did not seem too large by any means.

Thank you for the help. The problem is that so far I couldn't find any store with L and XL scalpel to test. :/

Still, I believe that I cannot have an L, I will need a XL. Unfortunately the bike loses a bit a charm and most likely a bit heavier than smaller ones.

Anyway, XL will be. The issue now is if I need a Scalpel... maybe the Flash is comfortable enough with the SAVE system

No, 29er is not an option for me. I am a 26 guy and I want a nimble, nervous racing bike

650b it and you'll still have a race bike. I dunno about nervous but it for sure won't ride like a 29'er.

    Thoughts on parts

I know that this question is subject to opinion, but what make&model FDs are best on the Scalpel? Any thoughts? Any problems with the SRAM XX direct mounts?

Any thoughts as to which headsets?

Just picked it (stock) up today from Freshbikes, Arlington VA.

    2009 Scalpel 100 "Team Replica"

The frame arrived a week ago and just finished the build after receiving a new BB30 spindle. It's a used 2009 Team Replica in large that weigh 2178g including seatpost clamp. I carried over all the parts from my Rush and the weight is now 9.92kg. It's not WW light mainly due to the Lefty Terralogic (1511g), but I have a few things comming and planned to get the weight down a bit.

Using long steel pedal spindles in the winter --> short Ward Industries ti spindles -40g
    Hope 180/160 floating rotor --> Ashima aiRotor 160/140 -90g
    Rocket Ron/Furious Fred 2.25" --> Rocket Ron 2.1"/Furios Fred 2.0" -130g
Shimano XTR FD --> Campagnolo Super Record FD -50g

That should bring it down to 9.61kg for next season.

A set of Formula R1 brakes and a Lefty SL could shave another 500g, but let's see what happens.

Fisrt ride was today at a local race this saturday. It was just a completely different experience than the Rush. On the positive side is a much more race oriented feel, sharper/faster cornering, more agile in tight stuff and it actually feels like a hardtail with the shock locked. The most negative observation is that it just doesn't have the flow on the single tracks that the Rush had so you need to put power down constantly to keep it going.
I should add that the Rush was a size XL that I rode with a 90mm +5 degree stem, whereas the Scalpel is a large with a 110mm -5 degree stem.

    Newly build

No problem (Racing Ralph 2.25 and Nobby Nic 2.25) but in muddy conditions, be careful to protect the flexstays with clearcoat (3M or other)

    '06 Scalpel with Headshok

I've always wanted one of these! Finally picked up a nice frame with Headshok and an RP2 on the back. Only about 300km on it so far and I love it.

I had the wheels and tires already built and ready by the time the frame arrived so I threw them on:
    Post your Scalpel!!!!-00.jpg
Built it up with a nice '12 XX group:

    And here are the specs:

Derailleur Front - '12 SRAM XX 10 Speed
Derailleur Rear - '12 SRAM XX 10 Speed, Medium Cage
Shifters Front - '12 SRAM XX 10 Speed
Shifters Rear - '12 SRAM XX 10 Speed
Brakes Front - '12 SRAM XX

I hope you guys like it. One possibly interesting note, I changed the 90mm, 5 degree stem to a 110mm, 5 degree stem. This raised the handlebar height about 15mm.
