    Ergon grips are my next upgrade on my BB. I want to get them in pure black but seems like they do not make them. Good looking bike there.

    Thanks Jake, I am a little unhappy about the color of them as they do not match the bike but they feel great. I am even thinking of returning them and getting the white colored grips but am not sure if I will like that or not.

    I also feel you on that and also don't like the fact all the new ones have the horn covering the bar. Bad for bar ends when using carbon bars.

    At least you did not go for the white or green ones.

    The more I have modded my Bad Boy the more I realize the more black you can keep him the better. I seen a few ppl here change parts for bling parts and colours but IMHO its just not a bad boy anymore and sort of misses the point. May as well get a Cannondale Trail then, or similar.

    My ravens are 35mm and they are pretty darn close. I bet with the correct tread I could hit 38 or 40mm. You really have to take it on a tire by tire basis. But the Stan's Ravens rules tubeless. At least so far.

    What is the actual width of your 35mm tyres?

    I think it would be best if someone measured the distance between the frame so we know how much the actual width of the ryre can be. Those numbers like 32C don't really tell anthing since when measured it can be 27mm.

    When I am down at the bike store next I will get the callipers out and find out exactly how wide they are.
    With the Crest Rims tires also tend to sit a bit wider as I believe they are 24mm also.

    Baby finger and frame is the best space I have though.

    We measured the 35mm on the Stan's Crest 29 rims today with callipers and the fattest seemed to be about 35.9mm.
    Figure there was about 4-5mm between the tire and frame. Seat stays and side had lots of space though. So in theory you could have a wider tire as long as it is not higher, though I doubt that exists.

    Hey all, going in tonite after work to grab a 2012 bb5 with the rigid lefty. Gonna do mostly road and some light off roading (dirt& gravel), what tire and size would you guys recommend. Im 250lb and do not feel comfortable on the skinny road tires. Also at 6'2" 32 in seam should i go with the large or xl ? I know most of these are subjective questions but i value anyones input or opinion being a noob...

    I'm 5'11" long torso and I'm riding a large comfortably. I would recommend an XL for someone 6'2".

    As far as skinny tires are concerned, I find that it's mostly in my head. I used to think I needed big fat MTB tires to feel stable and comfortable but since I started road biking, I've found out it doesn't make that much of a difference. If you're in a turn too fast or taking a wrong line, it doesn't matter how fat the tires are ... you will fall. So work on your turns, leans, and learn to choose good lines and you'll be golden.

    Hi, I'm 6,3 for 170lb and i feel perfect on a XL.
    I use my BB as a road/city bike, but never as a commuter, i use it for training.
    I changed tires and i put some Schalbe Ultremo DD 700x25 because standard Kojaks were rally scary and unstable al high speed (over 30mph).
    Now the handling is really better, is like a knife on the asphalt...i don't think it was about the tire size, but a question of quality.
    Btw I never tried a BB with offoad tires.
    I also changed pedals, standard were goodlooking, but not grippy enough.

    Alright It's not a bad boy, but I saw this at the LBS tonight. Cannondale has made a kid's bike with a solo fork, gears, and disc brakes. It's like a badboy for kids. I wish I would've had such a cool bike when I was a kid.

    I've got X9 RD on mine. In my opinion, it's hard to beat 1:1 actuation of SRAM. Besides they're headquartered in ChiTown.

    p.s. I loved the old C-Dale Scalpel. I had one years ago.

    Right; I thought the BB on Lake Michigan was yours but realized you'd quoted t4prarie. I bought my BB as a used frame and added a black Niner carbon fork, X9 shifters and derailleurs, Juicy 7 brakes, and SRAM crankset.

    Frame $200 on eBay
    Fork $300 on sale from JensonUSA
    Drivetrain $250 from Pinkbike (new take offs)
    Crankset/bb $150 on sale from JensonUSA
    Brakes $125 from Pinkbike (used)
    Wheels and the rest of the bits I had leftover from other MTB projects.

    I don't know the different configs of BB, but personally I wouldn't pay a $700 premium on top of whatever the BB5 costs. I like the rigid fork and a good set of Serfas slicks make my BB the ultimate urban assault bike.

    Regarding max tire size that some people have asked. On my 2012 BB5 I swapped out the Kojak 700 x 28 tires for Michilin City 700 x 35 tires. I think I could go 38. The front tire is no problem and I could probably use a 29er mtn tire but it's the back that limits your tire choices.

    I used entry level (read cheap) Truvativ Powerspline bottom bracket ($16 USD from Tree fort Bikes) with SRAM S600 crankset ($60 USD from Amazon). They work great and the crank arms' utilitarian black fits in well with the Bad Boy. I haven't had any issues with them whatsoever. I use my Bad Boy mostly on paved trails and city streets with occasional gravel paths. Along with X7/X9 drive train, I've never had a miss shift or any other issues. This combo on the Bad Boy shiftfs just as well as my Kona equipped with XTR everything. Of course they are heavier than the XTR drivetrain.

    I used to have XT crankset on the Bad Boy but removed to put on my Rocky Mountain. Honestly, from a shifting and stiffness/flexing stand point I can't tell the difference between the XT and the S600.

    shimano slx derailer

    Aloha ,has anyone else had trouble with the shimano slx rear derailer.mine seems to need constant adjusting.Hope every one has been ripping on there badboys. aloha jay

    mussman, I have found that i need to adjust it from time to time. I think it is just the way it is. I also don't think much of it as I ride the crap out of my bike and it's just one of those things I have to pay attention to. It's holding up great considering I've now put 2000 miles on my badboy 1 since I bought it in April. I just changed the pedals to some xpedo ones. A lot more grip than the six point ones that came with it.

    Hi, I own a badboy 4 2012...mine rear slx sucks as well, expecially on light gears, like the 4 lightest, needs constant adjusting.
    This monday i was in the end of a 10 miles up from a mountain, the last mile...i was pumping on pedals standing up on my feet and it changed gear by itself.
    I almost fell and smashed my left knee on the stem cutting my knee with the 2 screws

    I owned a bike with rear Xt before this badboy and Xt was better and more stable then Slx.

    I've fitted sks p35 chromoplastic fenders, crank bros candy 1s and a TiGr bike lock.

    The front fender was most tricky - I'll need to get a longer Allen bolt than supplied and the stays needed some bending but I think it's far better than no fender. The rear fender needed a hole drilled near the seat stay bridge.

    One question I have is should the rear fender sit out as far as it does?

    Hey t4 - I used the standard lower brake bolt to secure. I also cut about 13mm from either stay.

    I had to bend the stay quite a lot.

    Will try to take more pics later.

    Sorry for late reply but Hollowgram probably won't fit. Spindles for BB30 cranks are much largerin diameter and won't fit in standard 68mm or 73mm bottom bracket.

    Been lurking here for awhile. Anybody know if the 2001 BBU can go 700c? I hear this frame is pretty light. I used to have a 2005 F2000SL Optimo...so I know what light is LOL...

    My other concern is about using my SRAM X0 9-speed rear derailleur. The 2001 BBU has the cable guide out of the lower chainstay...coming to a loop and designed for use with older Shimano RDs. The X0 RD is designed for seatstay-mounted cable guides(upright cable threading). Will I have any issues here?

    Lastly, what is the ideal front gearing running 700c x 23 tires?

    It should even if it uses canti brakes(special bracket) my 1995 f800 fits 700c x 322 semi slick cross tires, but instead of buying the brackets I used 650b x42 conti tour tires with Joes brand canti(old school) also my 2009 bb ultra runs 650b's with Vee brand 2.1 they are a half a millimeter taller then the stock 700c x 28........M

    I had to machine and weld a new bracket for the Hope master cylinder and it doesn't really lock into position but the cables keep it centered. I'll weld a tab or put a pin in it later.



    Since the majority of my riding is taking my daughter to daycare in a trailer I really wanted and needed to keep the hydraulic discs for their power. Here's the rear caliper and that silver thing is the hitch to the trailer.



    I love the way campy's ergo levers shift and went with a set I found on ebay. The cable from the hoods to the master is short and there's no sponginess - just very solid powerful stopping.



    I used a Jtek Shiftmate adapter and I can't tell you how happy I am with it. It converted the Campy 10 speed shifters to work with the Shimano SLX 9 speed rear derailleur perfectly. I'm still surprised at how well it works and how well the bike shifts. Once I get my shorter stem I think the fit will be perfect.

    I needed a new saddle so I just kept the white theme going with it and a set of new tires which I think really help to show off the Solo front end. I will probably have to put fenders back on as we're not through with spring here but for now I like to just look at it like this. It's certainly got the bad boy look but it's also different which I like so I'm very happy with the way it turned out.

    Trade Cannondale BB Med for Large

    Hi All,

    I have a 2007 Cdale BB Ultra which has been my street only rig. My only complaint other than the zero front tire clearance on the 700 wheels is the frame is a bit smallish for my liking. I'm wondering is anyone out there has a large that they'd like to trade for a medium. My frame is in very good shape and made in the USA. I'm looking for the same in a large size. Ideally I'd look to swap frames only but to save trouble would consider trading bikes straight across. The bike is in Portland Oregon

    I'd also be interested in purchasing a Large frame if the trade option doesn't materialize

    Well I never ridden it with 26" MTB wheels, so I have no reference.
    All I know is that I just cruze by people on MTB's
    So don't really know about improvement of handling. I noticed a huge improvement in acceleration though.

    Planet X wheels are kind of in between a top brand and Chinese carbon (my opinion), so they are perfect for me

    Want to upgrade to carbon handlebars to absorb some of the vibrations.

    Well it's been a while since I had a flat. Tubulars are a lot stronger and I noticed a big improvement in comfort.

    But when you have a flat, you take the tyre of and put a spare on (without glueing) and just ride a bit more carefull

    I bought it as a complete wheelset. Rims are 24h, so the original hubs wouldn't work. Hubs ae branded Planet-X, but I guess it's just a standard hub with their label on it.

    I bought them straight of Planet X, costs where something like $800,- (€650,-).
    Cheapest Chinese carbon wheels I found with disc hub are €500,-.

    Tires are 32mm Schwalb Racing Ralph.

    I can't see in the pic is there a hole in the fork to mount the fender too? I stopped at my local shop today to look at one. But they didn't have any. I want to order the 5 but I need to put fenders on it.

    Never mind the pics that show up in the quote show it.
