Any idea of the weight of the bike when you got it? Mine wll be a touch heavier as its a large, but not by much.

    Happy riding.
According to this site: 9,765 kg for a medium.

    9.765 gr + 339 gr (XT pedals) + 2 x 44 gr (bottle cage holders) + 40 gr (Leonardi stem) + 66 gr. (Ritchey barends) - 150 gr (SLR wheels) = 10.148 gr of 10,148 kg.

Didn't know the weight of the speedometer. Total weight, approximately 10,2 kg.

    Did some little changes.

I've shortened the handlebar with 1 centimeter on each side and put a pair of barends on it. Also mounted a Cannondale IQ 300 wireless speedometer. Damn, that was precision work with that upside down Lefty fork. I've had to grind off some material from the protection guard to let the sensor fit, to avoid he will be touching the spokes.

Now is the bike ready to roll! Only the weather is not cooperating

I really like the way you style your bikes, not sure what it is but all of your bikes have a bit of a unique look to them. The SLRs look awesome mate. I also thought about putting one of those stems on, I need to get a bike fit first, not sure they'd be good for my back haha!
and no, I am not missing the other half of my fork....

I'm riding with innertubes. Today I've tested the bike for the first time on a track. The wheels are really good. I've had a good experience with SLR's on the 26', so the choice for SLR 29'ers was obvious.

    sandyeggo,

Is that the TeamBeer adapter? I just got a 09 29er 2 frame warrantied for a 13 F29 1 Alloy frame and plan to swap my SS steel to this (racing a LOT more this next year perfect frame for it) and will probably use a tensioner for a week but do what to get an adapter. So how is it holding up?
    Hey Mr Pink

Sorry it took so long to respond - I just happened to see your post. Yes - it is a TeamBeer adaptor. I really liked it and it held up well. The alloy Flash makes for a great SSer! I think you'll love it.

Just picked up my warrantied frame from the shop they built it up for free! Have to make a few changes like the seat and the handlebars will be lower. Saved me the hassle of looking for a new race frame for next year.

Revel Outdoors, the shop close to work, it's normal for dates to shift around and then stuff turns up without warning by all accounts, according to CSG nobody will have stock before February, but I don't believe that for a second.

That was my experience, 3 or 4 different delivery dates, 6 months later than first promised and then randomly turned up 3 weeks earlier than the last delivery date.

Swore then if I ever bought another Cannondale it would only ever be if they showed stock at warehouse.

A guy I ride/race with ordered a Flash 29er in November 2011 and it turned up in June 2012! All down to a shortage of bits and supposedly because of issues with the way bikes were made up in several locations, this is supposed to be better now, as complete bikes are assembled in the far east, but I suppose time will tell, you would hope a container ship, travelling half way round the world, would make several stops around Europe, seeing as most of our neighbouring countries have stock...

Maybe some good news will come along this week, now Christmas is over, and people are heading back to work.

I was very relaxed about the delivery but the more horror stories I hear the more nervous I am becoming ! I have ordered the flash 3 carbon as opposed to the 2 , maybe this is why is meant to be coming earlier . Fingers crossed . All the waiting is such a drag and I haven't even ridden a 29 er or ever experienced a lefty ! Or carbon for that matter

Gavinar, let's hope we both get lucky with delivery. As for not riding one, don't worry about it, I've spent the last 4 years on an anthem, and loved it, I dabbled with a carbon hard tail, and it was ok but I never felt quite right.
A flash carbon 3 was being demo ridden by a mate, and I had a go, Didn't expect anything major, but I was blown away, I had more confidence through a section of trail than ever before, the feeling and grip on the front end was what did it for me, I then spent months thinking do I get or not, and the wife told me to shut up, and go order what I wanted!

Yep, she is a star, the Anthem was supposed to be just a frame set, but my mates race bike came along at the right time, (xc elite in the uk) so it went into retirement with me!
Never questions what I buy, just wonders why....like you I was after a flash 3, but went for the 2 as it had all the bits to make the spec what I'm used too.

I always thought the UK is the center of the world.

Bike is riding great. Allready 200 km's, bike is not notable steering heavier than the 26'. I think the sharper headset angle is the reason? I'm really satisfied about the riding behavior, never thought a 29'er could ride so 'light'.

I hope for you on a early delivery!

Tommieboy, glad to hear all is well with the bike, like you I couldn't believe how well the Flash rides, at that was on a carbon 3, so the 2 must be a bit better due to the spec.

Early delivery not looking good at the moment, the official line is February 18th, which could see a debut at the final round of the local Winter Series race.

    Happy riding.

I like the idea, but mine is ordered and I'm a loyal old fool. The stock of upgrade parts I have is steadily growing....Should lose a hundred or so grammes for not much money spent.

Kcnc rotors (used them for 2 years and love them)
Just about every bolt will be Titanium...
Kcnc foam grips (comfy and light)
    Tubeless kit ready to go.
Xo shifters, but may go 1x10 straight away....

At some point a set of lighter wheels too, but I weigh in at 80kg so will have to look around and see what suits.

Enjoy the weekend, and that bike!

Oh great , does annoy me when you trust something a salesman says I should know better by now ! I don't understand why uk seem to be last on the list . Even Belgium get on the list above us . Just hope she is worth waiting for . Could have had a 2013 specialized stumpy carbon marathon with me by now .

I would think the fact Cannondales European base is in Holland helps with stock getting to Europe before us. speaking to the guys in the shop I use, stuff can turn up unexpected, so don't fret too much.

And it will be worth the wait, I demo rode one in March, convinced myself that although it felt really good, I didn't need one, but changed my mind and ordered one. After all it is the finer 29er......

What headset are you using for this? Looks tapered and I am looking at the same fork for my current build.

I am using a Orbit Z reducer which I assume I can just get a new cap for the bottom headset.

... and if we just ...

Gavinar, that sounds good, I was in the shop this evening, and nothing had changed on screen with my order, it still shows 18/2/13, but I've just texted my mate who works there and offered him cake, as reward for finding out more tomorrow.

Would be nice to think its here and I could be riding it at the weekend, then 2 races on successive weekends.....

Just told the wife, she looked so pleased!

Hey Styish , sorry to hear that bud i know it is agonizing waiting for these bikes . The bike was meant to be at southampton monday and the dealer did say he had 2 bikes on that delivery coming to his store mine being one . Not sure if they were both flash 3 but will speak to him later today and find out. Hopefully still on for collection over the weekend although it means i have a 2 hr drive to Bournemouth.
Hope you have some good news and yours surprises you by turning up unexpectedly . ps any ideas on what pedals to go for ?

Gavinar, I've been using xt pedals for a while and had no issues at all, but as I want to keep the bike as light as possible I might try some Exustar ones this time round.

Hope you pick up the bike at the weekend, the 2 hour drive will be well worth it.

Got a call from the shop today, was hoping for news on delivery of my Flash, but just more news of another delay, now gone back to march/April at the earliest, that's now the 5th date change since I placed the order on November 15th.

Hopefully someone from CSG in the uk checks this forum, and can get things moving, it's becoming a bit of a joke if I'm honest, the UK has hardly seen a 2013 bike, and by the time they arrive the 2014 models won't be far away.

Come on CSG Cannondale, sort your act out and serve your customers better.....

Hopefully someone from CSG in the uk checks this forum, and can get things moving, it's becoming a bit of a joke if I'm honest, the UK has hardly seen a 2013 bike, and by the time they arrive the 2014 models won't be far away.

Hey Styish sorry to hear about your delays buddy it does not sound right and all these delays are unnecessary as the bikes are in europe . Mine is on a truck up to me and will be delivered tomorrow . will post pics when it arrives . I know the delivery my bike was in had at least 1 other carbon flash if you want to speak to the store where i bought to check i will happily give you the number. G

Cheers Gavinar, hope you get yours tomorrow ok, really have no idea who or what to believe now, just got to hope it might just arrive ahead of schedule.

I did speak to Primera Sport, and they had the same date of February for the one Im waiting for, which I assume will have moved back as well. Been giving the idea of giving up some thought too, but nothing else out there holds as much interest.

Nice one, you pleased with it?

I have e mailed CSG to ask what's gone wrong this time, but so far no reply, which isn't really a surprise if I'm honest.

Is that a Large frame? Looks good in the picture, enjoy the ride.

Hi Styish just been up the road for a quick blast and yes feels fantastic really comfy riding position , although been riding a specialized allez elite for 3 months so anything with upright bars is an improvement ! the frame is a large and the seat height in the picture was a guess but feels not too far out. I only have the plastic pedals on at the moment so won't fiddle until sat when i get to the store and sort out some xt pedals and shoes. The avids needed a couple of good stops before the brakes started to bite but feel plenty strong enough , and the 29ers are definitely good for momentum. I have not been riding mountain bikes for a few tears and it feels great to be back on one , i did notice that the front now has 2 cogs as opposed to 3 whilst the rear has 10 giving me 20 gears as opposed to 30. Is that the norm now ? also the bike did not have any instructions in the manual on operating the lefty fork so i do not know how to set the locked out fork . I have an app for my phone which works out my fork setting according to my weight and not sure if i can adjust this or if the cannondale dealer must ?

Ps i would love to upgrade a couple of things mainly the wheels to the mavic slr crossmax that i have seen on this topic but wondered if i have my brand new wheels can i p/x them for the new ones or try and sell separately how does it work ?

If you're going to upgrade the wheels, sell the ones you have and order whichever ones take your fancy, the Mavcs are supposed to be very reliable and strong.
You will have plenty of gear choice with what you have on there, a double chain set is the norm, most. Bikes are built this way now.

As for the Lefty, best to speak to the shop, the lockout is on top if the fork leg, and I believe you just turn the knob to lock it, not owned a lefty before, so I could be wrong there.

Just enjoy it, youve made a good choice.

Bike is sub 20lbs. Just got the RP23 PUSHED and WOW! ride is completely different and off the charts. It's a 2013 year bike. I wanted the white spoked enve's to have a little contrast on the frame. ride is as close to a hardtail race 29er as there is. Anyone who has a Scalpel should think hard about upgrading the RP23 to PUSH.

    Amazing bike man.

I'm turning 40 in june and I'm looking at the Scalpel Ultimate as a present to myself. There's only two things holding me up : my hearth is still with my now gone 2012 Epic/Brain thing and possibly the idea of buying it back and june is already that time of the year to see C'dale 2014's models.....decisions,decisions,decisions.

Finally got all my new goodies on for a test ride.
Stan's Arch Rims (taped) with bladed spokes and DT Swiss 240 rear
Stan's Sealant and nipples sealed up my old Conti Mt Kings nicely
    SRAM PG990 cassette
    Tioga Surefoot 8 pedals
    Chunky Silicone grips
Lost over 1lb of rotating weight and tubeless rocks!

I did changed stem from 110 mm -15 deg. to 100mm -5 deg. And i moved headset spacer to bottom. It really surprised, that geometry feels much more "trail bike" than my old prophet. I can't hardly wait for spring come, that i can hit the trails.

Here's my brand new Scalpel Alloy 3. Love this bike! Some immediate upgrades were done, but I am sure there will be more:
Crest Wheels (tubeless), XO carbon crank, EC 70 Carbon low rise bar, Thomson Elite post, Specialized Henge saddle, new ODI lockons, Alligator Windcutter rotors...

Hey guys, got my F29 Carbon 3 last week, looks the same as yours FiCaçador, just a deifferent saddle, mines a fizik Tundra2. Amazing ride and my first 29er. The Lefty is the best fork i have ever used.
The only thing i have done so far is change it to Tubeless and test some narrower bars (620). At mo not used to the front end being higher, but will give it a little more time, if not might try a Leonardi stem....

Great to see all these awesome bikes, just makes me more jealous that mine is still not here, it's meant to be due on Friday, but I'm not holding out much hope if I'm honest, as the Importer hasn't even had them in the warehouse yet.
It would seem the uk is possibly the worst place in the world to get a Cannondale bike.

Just got my first Cannondale this weekend. This thing is a rocket for sure.

Walked in to buy some Enve wheels - walked out with a new bike. Whoops.

Looks like you are in the same area as me jbbikerider. I had the shop swap out for black spokes and logos on the wheels, otherwise looks to be about the same bike.

I've got the same bike, after much research and raising my beginners budget. A few q's
1)have you been able to go tubeless w stock wheels?
2)any mods you've done you consider home runs?
    3)was water bottle tight fit?

Question: What kind Ralph's come with the bike? The spec sheet says: Performance 29 x 2.1"EVO....but when I go to the Schawlbe website there doesn't appear to be such a tire.

The stock tires are indeed Racing Ralph Performance 2.1, which don't appear on Schwalbe website or web stores, but somehow appear on this bike!
I will change the front one to a Rocket Ron Performance 2.25, but these new Ralphs are surprisingly grippy for such narrow, fast rolling XC tires.

After a long wait, my Carbon 2 arrived in the shop today, typically I was working miles away so couldn't get it, but all being well I will be picking it up tomorrow. Quite surprised to hear from the mechanic that a Large comes in at 9.8kg out of the box with no pedals.

Looking forward to setting it up, and trying it out on Friday afternoon, then racing it on Sunday...

That could be the right weight for a Large. A medium = 9,765 kg

Because right after the jump there was a corner.
Btw, mostly of the time when I'm riding technical tracks, I'm riding with one or two fingers on the brakes. Always a quick response!

Cannondale F29 Carbon 3 Custom with mods

Here is my new Cannondale F29 C3. I recently sold my 2010 26 Flash that i had posted on the "Post your Flash" thread. Weighs in at 8.9kg. Flys!!!
All original parts are boxed and stored for resale.

    New parts include:

    1 x 10 Shimano XTR drive train
    Shimano XTR race brakes
    Cannondale SI crank
    EggBeater 11Ti Pedals
    CruveCycling wheel set

A tip to other F29 owners. Note how i have routed the cabling for the rear mech. It is tied to the brake hose and runs down the drive side seat stay and maintains full outer casing. I recommend this routing for increased shifting performance in muddy conditions. The straighter cable line and full length outer generally improve shifting in any condition. And improve the longevity of your cables. IMO

    Hey Brucesleeve,

So glad I found your post 'cause what you've done is exactly what I'm trying to build up. I have the same spider for a RaceFace narrow wide 32 tooth chain ring for 1x10 setup. What chainring bolts did you use for your bike and have you modified anything else in the conversion? Also, what shifter are you using?
I love your idea about the rear cable route. Am going to take that on too. Always bewildered me somewhat that Flashes have exposed cables on the down tube to get covered in dust and crud. Seems counter intuitive to me given its something one would want to keep clean and reduce friction on.

    Cheers,

    Abes

    Hey Abes,
Yeah, having been a bike mechanic for many years I was baffled that Cannondale hadn't evolved its cable management on the flash since my first 26 flash in 2010. Every race I did on that I had to recable it. This works a lot better.

I'm using the 3x10 hollow gram spider on the middle setting. With single speed c/ring bolts.
I'm using an xtr 10sp shifter that is directly mounted to the brake.
The chain guide is the e-thirteen e-type direct mount with an e-thirteen 34t ring. Cassette is 11-36 so I get quite a wide range and no chain rub. All of this set up using the xtr clutch type rear mech is perfect for me.

One other thing ill mention is when I removed the original SRAM crank to install the Cannondale crank, I found that the new bb shells have a machined in bearing race that eliminates the need for circlips. It however also had circlips installed. These need to be removed to get the spacing on your Cannondale crank to work properly. If you leave them in you will overload your bearings, as you will see the wavy washer press flat as you are tightening.

Good luck, any other questions please ask. And share pics when you're done.

    Brucesleeve,
Cheers for the quick reply and extra advice. I've got an XTR ispec shifter coming but will be going with an XT shadow plus rear derailleur. Thanks for the detail about the chain ring setting. I'm going to do mine sans chain guide as the word on the narrow wide RaceFace chainring is that they don't drop, especially with a clutch mech. The reality is I'll come off the bike before the chain does if anything gets hairy enough to threaten displacing it!
Will be sure to get pics up as soon as I can get the bike built. Probably about a month from now but I live in hope it'll get done sooner.
    Cheers again.

2013 Carbon 1 size medium. Picked it up yesterday. Flatted on the first ride, then spent about 4 hours trying to convert it to tubeless , but I finally got it . Tubeless with pedals its around 21.5 lbs. So stoked! Rides like a dream
