Possible to upgrade to suspension forks on Killer V500?

I have an old Killer V500 and was looking to upgrade to suspension forks. I recently upgraded to shifters, cassette, and rear derailleurs to Deore XT's. The tech at the LBS said that it would be too dangerous and make the bike unsafe, since it changes the geometry of the bike. I have seen some KillerV 500 photos with suspension forks on them. Is it true or is he pulling my chain?

I've been riding my Killer V500 for the last 14 years with a Rockshox Mag 21 fork and never had any issues.
