Hello all. I recently bought an older (1998 I think) F400 a couple weeks ago and have been riding it pretty much everyday since. I have probably logged over 100 miles so far in just over two weeks, mostly road, but some light trails as well. Anyway, when I got done with my ride today I noticed the top of the head mount where the stem goes down into the head was covered in a light film of oil. This is the first time I have noticed this right there. Does this mean the headshock is leaking and that I am looking at a ridiculously priced rebuild? I hope not as I thought I was doing my due diligence in buying a used one from a reputable Cannondale shop. If this is common to older headshocks and it just needs a new seal or something then I can live with that. I just don't want this to be an expensive fix at this point. Thanks for any info you can provide.
