New question here. Newbie Advice - Cannondale v Specialised

    Hi,

Im looking to purchase a bike for general riding and a bit of downhill work. Am a nebie so am finding it difficult to make a good call with what bike to buy. Im 33 and 14.5st, done a lot of bmx racing in my younger days followed by mountain biking when the sport was still in its infancy.

In a delima at the moment and dont know which bike to choose.

Narrowed it down a little between a Specialised SFR XC 2007 and a Cannondale Prophet 500 SL 2006. See below:

Any pointers advice and/or comments on these 2 set ups would be much appreciated.

    Cheers
    James

I feel like if you are going for more of an XC style of riding you might think about going with the Prophet. Cannondale gives a much better component set for the price point. I feel like the prophet is an all mountain rig geared towards the freeride aspect of all mountain especially with the 140mm rear travel. It will make you very comfortable going downhill and you will not look back at all. Although I am a huge Specialized fan I think they set their price to help the Research and Development Department rather then a higher spec.
But these are just my opinions..

+1 on the Specialized pricing. I went with a C-Dale on my last bike for that reason, as well as an obvious attention to many innovations in their product lineup (Lefty fork, Headshok, etc.) Not to say Specialized isn't on the bleeding edge of materials innovation, but it's a lot of extra rubels to pay for a similar ride.

    Spec vs Cannondale

Either way you go you will enjoy your bike- Prophet, Rush or may I suggest you look at the 2008 Stumpjumpers- wow what cool bikes. If I had to have just one bike it would probably be my Rush. I love that bike.

Check out the previous posts about the Prophet SL. Apparently it's a regular Prophet with shorter shocks to lower the bottom bracket. Some people liket that some people don't. The SL versions were Euro only so I can't comment on how it rides.
