This is the 160mm travel bike, not the 130mm trail bike. Think of it as the replacement of the Prophet MX (that never had Lefties) and another bike will replace the regular Prophet...perhaps with fresh new Lefties.

That curve in the material in front of the frame totally ruins getting any kind of outline of the frame!! augh (Yes I tried inverting the colours and played around with the lighting etc ad naeseum)

I heard that they were in trouble with regard to the development costs of the two new bikes... Hope that don't effect anything.

Anyone else think that looks like a double crown fork?

    Good Luck

Will the new bike fall apart, like the new Scalpel, and have recalls on its carbon cranks and Lefty ??

Can C'dale survive all the **** going down ??

Looks like a Scott Ransome. But what is the angle of the seattube and the fronttube, and the front looks a mile high.

The fork must be the longest 160mm fork ever built, if you just look at the distanse from the center of the front wheel and to whats apear to be the handlebar.

Doesnt look like a bike too use if you are in a hurry to get up a hill

Hah, Hah, Hah very funny! You're only afraid to be hooked on cannondale again
Imagine this bike to be a 160mm travel AM rig with a full carbon fiber frame like your Mojo,
with a "Dual Lefty" and full xtr group (including the cranks)...... see, I bet you're drooling already

    Let's not forget the 130!

If you pay attention, you can see many details of the bike beneath the cloth. My kid's mom is a Photoshop expert, and she said it's no real cloth, it's made over, just see how angled the fabric is around the wheels. It's probably copied from the 160 and just layed over to cover the pic.

But look through it, you can see the Lefty Max, and see the logo in red and the rear triangle is pretty visible, you can see the logo in red too, and both the shock and its linkage! It may sound stupid, but those of you who have a LCD monitor, just look from below the screen and you will be able to see almost the whole bike!

Just got myself wondering how SOONER will be that!

    Yip!
You can see the decals on the downtube, the rear shock, the chain- and seatstay (no swingarm?), the scalpel-like suspension link between seatstay and shock, etc.

This is like trying to mentally undress a chick who might be hot, but you're not sure where the clothes end and the body begins. Whatever these bikes are they both look like they're going to need a push uphill.

You got it! The one with the Lefty is supposed to be 130mm All-Mountain and the other a 160mm Big Mountain. The Lefty is supposed to have Fox internals and work just as a RLC fork, or if you like, as the Lefty Speed RLC.

    Do I see this right???
Is there no chainstay on the driveside of the 130 Fully???
You can see 'a chainstay' with 'Cannondale' on is, but this chainstay does to my opinion not cross the "Max"-logo on the Crossmax ST rim...
Could it be that the visibile chainstay on the picture is the inside of the non-driveside chainstay???

And you can see a spoke crossing the chainstay.
So... this means the chainstay you see is the non-drive chainstay...
    So... NO DRIVE-SIDE chainstay???
    That's a rear Lefty !!!

It looks that way, but then the chain and the seatstay clearly cross in front of the tire, so it looks like the bike has two seatstays but only one chainstay (on the left as well), or perhaps Cannondale didn't mean for us to manipulate the image like this, and the thing under the cloth is either a (badly) photoshopped mockup, or a partly built unit with only one chainstay (?).

All good fun anyway, and nice viral marketing from them :-)

It's probably just a dropped chainstay on the drive side. A chainstay as high as the one on the non-drive side would surely hit the front derailleur under compression.

The drive-side missing the chainstay would look like this...

    I
'm sooo happy for a long travel Lefty.
The 130 will be super light I'm sure, to help it
compete with the new Trek and Specialized 130's!
I'd hit it, but I bruise like a peach.

I would assume that the engineers know alot more than me and did their homework, but that asymmetrical design looks like it would introduce some weird torsional and twisting effects.

That would be my assumption as well, let's hope so for their sake. It is a design that can be pulled off, motorcycles also use it from what I understand. Looks interesting for sure!

Yes, it seems there's no chainstay in the drive side, but isn't the seatstay too thin to hold all the weight and torsion?

it looks like the last photoshopped photo has been way "photoshopped" Its missing things from the original like the disk rotor and bulge from the right fork strut. It looks like a little more than contrast was altered.

This one under the covers I believe is their 130mm travel model. It looks very similar to the new Scalpel except it has a pivot near the BB & rear derailleur and of course different geo.

Don't forget that is supposed to have a carbon version of the 130 as well! Wonder if it will look like more with the Rush with its beefed up curved top tube or with the Scalpel's slim and straight top tube... For my taste, as an AM bike, I'd like it to be more like Rush's...

OK, fellow nerds, a guess at the HT angle of the 160? Seems no slacker than a Prophet in FR position (67.5). I'd say 68. Plus it looks like it has 8" rotors; a bit excessive, eh?

excessive? hell no! hehe. one needs all the braking power one can get.

yeah, i also bet on a 68 degree head angle, or they should make it adjustable like my commie supreme between 66 and 68 (or 67 and 69 depending on the ac height). hm, maybe a 67.5 head angle is in the works? guess the point of the bike decides it; a more dhish ride calls for 67, more xc 68ish.

The righty is a prototype for the new folding commuter bike, which will most likley only be sold in Europe.

A long time ago, the rumors said around march but rumors are just that: rumors.

if that was truly a cannondale teaser, even the cloth would have the Cannondale logo about 10 times on it.

I guess they will be released beginning of March, at least here in Europe. A shop here in Belgium said he will go to the Canary islands for a test beginning of March and a cannondale store in Switzerland has a test weekend scheduled beginning of March. but neither of them show more details of the bikes

And I've been testing them on the same slopes and snowparks I usually snowboard on.

Dan, are you allowed to tell us anything else? do you know WHEN you are allowed to tell us anything else? Looks like I'm going to need to take my Cannondale rep out to dinner to get any info. Also, if march is looking like international release, is the american release typically around the same time (for past releases)?

Soon... = Fox36 (Totem Option) 160/170 = SC Nomad Killer
Sooner = 130/140 Lefty = Cannondale Prophet Killer

I was kidding, the picture wasn't taken on my back porch nor did I test the new bikes...

While I do have some details, there is nothing much I can tell you guys for now except what has already been said. For the rest, you'll all have to wait until details are officially announced... or officially leaked. Just be prepared to be amazed and keep your bike bank account ready...

My bike bank account is ready. My jekyll is ready to be exchanged. Will probably go for the 130 trail. Guess the 160 Big mountain is a bit too much for here in Belgium. 2 weeks a year at Lake Garda is not enough to go for the 160. And both of them will be too much for the bike bank account

maybe it's just me, but i can't figure out where the linkage attaches on the 130mm bike...it looks to have the exact same shape top-tube of the rush, and the link attaches several inches below it, not quite on the seat tube either...so it's not really like the perp or judge, but then again not quite scalpel either. If anything I'd have to say there is a slight protrusion from the seatpost and it attaches to that(similar to scalpel)...also, from what I can deduce from the shadows, the headtube gussets/junction looks delightfully huge! I'm guessing it'd be a carbon model under the sheet though, but who knows? maybe they scrapped that.

There's no top tube in the sooner pic! I know that it is not called the big mountain either. It will be a 160mm bike (the Moto) and a 130mm (the Rize). There were a few pics of the proto 160 bike floating around from crankworx. The 130 will have a progressive link to stiffen up the rear and give a more progressive stroke to the shock like the Judge or the 575 from Yeti.

I'm wondering/hoping that since these two are being released outside of the general 2008s, that there are some new design aspects too them; not just a bigger/smaller Prophet/Rush. Like, dare I say, shorter chainstay? Non single pivot?

The bike in the SOONER pic does have a top tube. The shock and shock linkage both mount to it.

name of the new 130 bike Rize?

I have checked the registration page of Cannondale today. The 160 Big Mountain is still in there, but the 130 trail bike with all its versions dissapeared. But there is a new bike: Rize, it has following models:
    Rize Carbon LTD
    Rize Carbon 1
    Rize Carbon 2
    Rize Carbon 3
    Rize 4
    Rize 5

I think those are the same as the 130 trail bike. It does fit into the naming more then "130 trail bike". Judge, Perp, prophet, rush, scalpel and now Rize????

So...carbon 1-3 and aluminum 4 and 5, just like the rush? I wonder if the spec is the same throughout then? I'm guess it would be, and that the 130mm would probably be a bit more expensive at each level due to extended travel (that tends to be the trend anyway...) That puts a Rize 4 at 2200-2500 bucks, and the carbons probably ranging from 3500-6500 like the rush....maybe? The cheapest rize will probably be 1500-2000, my guess, just from looking at the others.

160mm Big mountain Carbon?! That's gotta be one of the first FS 160mm carbon bikes....can't wait to see that.

Yeah, I noticed that too... That the 130 Trail had been removed from the Reg page... But I didn't notice the Rize :/ Interesting!

The dude who posted above; saying that the Big Mountain is going to be called the Moto and the Trail will be called the Rize might be onto something.

yeah.....I'm hoping they've cleaned it up a bit before then. Kinda scary. not to mention that looks an awful lot like the full floater concept, except the linkage is a bit more elaborate. the overall shock path looks like it would be similar

I don't know if Cannondale is playing a joke or their site got hacked but the pics now look like the sheets are covering various animals, not bikes.

No, they took pictures of prototypes for the next year instead and realized that people played with contrast to get some details out of the pictures. Realizing the mistake they just cover the traces with the new pictures.

The rize has been in front of everyones eyes any knowone has caught it. If you go to design sketchbook on Cannondale website and look at the second bike from the right in the picture at the top you will see the rear end of the bike.

no no...ar1981 was talking about the other image mentioned, of rize's rear end.

Also, for animal names, I was thinking maybe "ram" and ...i dunno, "elk" "buck" "stag" I doubt it though...probably just messing with us. Maybe new pics soon?
