My new 2013 Scalpel Carbon 29er!

I've been riding & racing SS exclusively for over a year now, but Iíve learned that some courses & trails are just more fun when you can relax a little and open up & enjoy a rocky & rough descent. Plus, Iím trying my hand at stage race this season, so I thought a geared FS would be a good fit (SS is fun but it makes me WORK so the gears should be less punishing day after day). I did a ton of research and came back to the Cannondale fold with a Scalpel 29er. I set it up 1x10 along with the following mods:
    XX1 Crank
    X0 type 2 RD
    XX shifter
EC70 685mm bar (to match my SS rigs)
    ESI Chunky grips
Project 321 front & rear hubs laced to Stanís Crestís

It's a large and the weight as pictured is 22.95lbs, but itíll be a gram or two lighter when I get a better bottle cage

I took it out for a few hours yesterday and after a brief learning curve getting reacquainted with gears, it was a blast. Technical stuff so much easier to clear when I can gear down for it and the just unloading on rocky & rough descents was as fun as Iíd hoped!

Perfectamundo. Nice work. My large is 23.1 with pedals, cage, and computer.

I like it a lot. How is the 1 x 10 on the long flowing downhill / Really steep inclines? It seems it would run out of gears. I've wanted to ask someone about 1 x 10s for awhile.

I am in the middle of the same build on my Trek, How long have you been riding the XO type2 and what are your feelings on it?

I'm so used to SS that 32x11-36 is plenty of gearing for me. I hit some steep climbs on my most recent ride and never made it down to the 36t cog (expcept once just to test the shifting out). If you like to sit & spin though I could see it being a problem.

The Type2/XX1 crank combo has been great for me! I hit the roughest patches I could find and didn't have any chain drop issues and the shifting has been flawless.

How long have you been running this set up and what cassette are you running?

So far just one 4 hr ride on the roughest terrain near me (I've dropped poorly tensioned SS chain'ss there, so it's a good test). I'm using an XX 11-36 cassette.

I pulled the trigger today and ordered the XO Type2 and XX trigger...I was rushed because of the guy who bought all of my XT stuff wanted everything.
