Lefty DLR2 air filter cleaning- help!

So bearing migration resetting and other basic maintenance issues are not a problem for me, but I am at a loss as to how to clean the lefty air filter. There doesn't seen to be any way of getting it off the fork without complete disassembly of the fork from the clamps. This can't be right for a part that is supposed to be serviced frequently. Help please!

You don't take the filter out from the lefty... You clean it while it's on. Just slide the rubber cover up, move the filter up a little bit and wash / oil the foam filter while it's on the fork. Just make sure you cover the hole (covered by the foam filter) on the fork with electric tap or something similar to prevent any water get to the hole.
