HELP NEEDED Removing Lefty from Flash 29er

I'm trying to remove the lefty from my Flash 29er 2 to send it off to Craig at Mendon for servicing. I'm following the clear instructions on this link Lefty Stem/Steerer Removal BUT I don't have the Canondale tool. I'm using a piece of wood to tap out the steering tube and this worked fine up until the last bit, which won't come out. Not sure if I should tap harder or what.
    Photo of progress attached.
Unfortunately Mendon is closed today so I couldn't ask Craig. Hope somebody else knows the answer so I can finish this up today. THANKS!

put the one piece in vertical position, not like in picture

unscrew a little bit more the lefty upper clamp bolt

    use a Maglite lamp

use the handle of a rubber hammer

Yep, make sure it's vertical, not tweaked as shown in the pic, this may be tough due to cable housings etc so do what you can to help that so you don't yank them in a funky way.

You're running into the lower bearing seat. It's getting stuck (as it should) on the upper bearing. A few more whacks and out it should come.....

Removing the handlebars might make it easier to straighten it up. I've removed mine several times without the Cannondale tool by just using a wooden rod and hammer.

Awesome, you have the same bike I do! I love that green!

I did the same thing to lube/overhaul my headset. Straighten it out a tad and give a few more good taps with a wooden dowel. I actually have a common hammer that has a handle diameter that is just the perfect size for this job.

Don't be too afraid to give it another few good whacks once you straighten it out. I'm rather ham-fisted and still made a smooth job of the whole procedure.
