    Flash tears' thread

    here we go...

not my bike ( too heavy ... ) , but happened in Tuscany

rider confirmed : No falls, no hitting rocks . nothing.

happened in a muddy race : at the start bike was ok , obviously

at the finish , after washing it , he discovered under the mud the crack.

he did not feel , on a muddy terrain , that something was wrong.

Kind of stuff "normal" when buying ‹ber light stuff.

Just hope the guy didn't buy it used and kept his receipt

EDIT; Yeah , haven't seen the "clamp" mark at first. A junior at the LBS ?

Hmmm, something just doesn't seem right. Maybe he didn't fall, but instead drove it into his garage? There is no way the frame could have broken like that without a crazy impact of some kind. Also I wouldn't consider it "normal" as that would suggest inherent design flaws in something that has passed the strictest testing in the industry...

Hmmm...Kind of strange if you ask me....No way, something must have hit that frame. You see the mark around the "A" of the "Flash". To me that looks something had clamped around it.

Hmm very interesting indeed, looks about the size of the bike shop bench vise/stand.

It does look like it was tightened in a workstand right there. Carbon is like that, it could have been crushed by the clamp of the workstand, nothing shows and you can ride it hard for a while but the initial damage slowly worsen and then, it cracks. Cannondales have always warned people not to clamp the bikes by the frame when putting it in workstands (alloy and carbon), grab the seatpost everyone, they're designed to be clamped...

Someone needs to go back to the bike shop and kick some @$$. Unless of course you are the one who clamped it........

It is amazing how the CF keeps both its shape and paint after being put in a bench-top vise. CRUNCH
