My current drive train consist of an x7 front downpull and an XT long rear. I run a 39/27 2x10 system and it works well for me. It is what came on the bike and I'm not changing either until it wears out. Idk if you can do a medium cage rear or not. I would think that would have more to do with what size cluster you run on the rear wheel more then anything. Hopefully this helps you, if you need more info lmk.

Thanks, I'd better stick with the long cage then.

Mine shifts very well and I have no issues. Only real issue I had was when I first bought it the shop that built it had the front shifter set up wrong. It was setup for 3x10 rather then 2x10 so I had this extra click I did not need and it shifted weird. I changed it and been flawless ever since.
