    F900 SX -- Updates help ?

    Hi guys,

Been riding for years and years, I stopped for a couple of years after college, then moved to CA and now started riding once again but my old workhorse is in need of dire help and I am out of the game of components , sizes and specs.

    Lefty:
Problem: It started leaking on my last ride into the boot, looks like lithium grease
Solution: mendoncyclesmith should be my solution

    Bottom Bracket:
Problem: It was creaking when I stopped biking, now there is a little play. I assume I need a new one ?
Solution: What size / type do I need ? Any recommendations ?

    CODA disc brakes / Wheels:
Problem: CODA stuff has been a joke, it doesn't brake, it squeals annoying everyone, and I cant find pads for it anymore.
Solution: New brakes, which require new wheels (damn four bolts). I just want something a little lighter and if possible stronger than the original CODA stuff on there ? any advice for the wheels / brakes ?

    Trigger Shifter -- Rear:
Problem: It doesn't always "catch" and somethings requires pressure in weird places to switch gear
Solution: Where can I find just the rear Shimano 9 speed xt trigger ? would a SRAM one work as well ?

Thanks for the help, it's all formatted so I can keep track easily.

    A couple of things:

    Lefty service--Mendoncyclesmith. Problem solved.

Coda 4-bolt rotors might still work with an updated brake set. I swapped the horrible CODA hydraulic brakes on my 2000 F2000 SL for Avid BB7. I was able to use the old 4-bolt hubs and rotors with the BB7 brakes just fine. This may work for you too. Otherwise, I have frequently seen CODA brake pads on eBay.

Could I keep the rotors (probably wet sand them ?), and just swap levers and calipers ?

I guess not - front rotor is 171mm and rear is 151mm.

I take it finding adapters for that size will be hard.

I'm not sure what size the CODA rotors on my F2000 SL are. They are probably the same size as on your F900 SX. In my case, I was able to use a brand new set of Avid BB7 brakes with the old CODA 4-bolt rotors. I didn't even need to use the Avid rotors.

At any rate, if the CODA brakes still work, you can probably easily find replacement pads on eBay. If they don't work, or if you can't stand the brakes like in my case, the BB7 option is worth a try if you want to avoid buying a new wheelset or 6-bolt hub, etc.

The brakes still 'work' but they squeal like nothing else, and zero power, never ever been great.

I do want to stay hydraulic, so I might try a set of the XT calipers / lever with the 160mm adapter and space it out an additional 5mm to match the 171mm.

Any idea on the bottom bracket size / model ?

Sorry to bring up the old post, just wanted to comment since I just went through the same thing on the same bike. I bought some Hope 4-bolt 160mm rotors from Jenson and a set of XT M785 brakes. Works like a champ!
As for the bottom bracket, 68/109. Shimano V1 Octalink splines. I'll be contacting Mendon shortly...

    Lefty:
Went to Mendon - came back feeling better than ever. Awesome experience.

    Bottom Bracket:
It was fine ! Turns out my pedals were all shot (thanks to the lbs for finding that one out). They put a pair of PD-MX30 on, great pedals if a little pricey.

    CODA disc Brakes / wheels.
They are were they belong, a landfill. Grabbed some XT Disc front and back, phenomenal brakes. I caught a sale for a front lefty Mavic Crosstrail, and later on a rear Cross Trail. Awesome wheels.

    Trigger Shifter:
Sprayed some WD40 in the shifters, they have been working great ever since.

That bike is a blast to ride. I wish the frame had a little more tire clearance in the back. Other than that I intend on keeping it for another 13 years hehe.

    Thanks for the help everyone.
