Direct Mount removal Jekyll and Trigger

I recently upgrade my 2011 Jekyll to 1x11 and my 2013 Trigger to a 1x10 and both bikes use the SRAM chainrings with the special teeth to help hold on the chain. So I am not going to run a chain guide. Now the question is can I ditch the front derailleur direct mount and bolt or does this serve another purpose?

You can remove it, but you'd have to remove the the chainrings to get to the mount first.
This is a bit troublesome since you have to remove crank arm as well in order to remove the chainring.

I'm sure the direct mount bracket holds the other side of the lower pivot??
