    Different diameter lefty top-caps?

I just got a new PBR100 Soloair replacement from Cannondale to replace my old DLRSL 110 from my 2009 Scalpel and I was just told by the shop mechanic that the diameter is different on this new top cap and it won't fit my fork. I thought the diameter of the tubing on all these forks was standard and I've heard many times on the forum that the old Lefty is upgradable to the new cartridge, so where did this top-cap they sent me belong?

*Edit I found a 2011 catalog that shows different serial numbers for the the Aluminum Lefty vs Carbon I can't tell if the diameter is different though, by looking at the threads on the tube though you can tell one is definitely deeper.

He's probably talking about the inner diameter where the lockout button is sticking out.....I also had to replace my top cap when I upgraded my lefty speed dlr2 to the 2011 pbr 100 solo air....it looks better in black anyways....(color of the new cap)

Hey cdalemaniac, thanks for the reply but that's not what I'm talking about. Cannondale sent me the new cartridge plus the black top cap seen in the manual pic. I don't even have my old stuff anymore (silver) because it was mailed back to them.

The Carbon Leftys and all bonded lefties have the same size cap diameter and are interchangeable as the threads are part of the upper clamp which is slid over the actual carbon or alloy tube.
Lefties with the removable clamps have slightly smaller caps.
I don't know about the new opi lefties, but I can imagine they are also the same size and are interchangeable with the bonded/carbon ones.
Did you just buy the cartridge or a retrofit set?
If cannondale swapped the cartridges out for you as an upgrade I would assume you have the correct cap.
Just try to screw it on and see what happens. If it should be the wrong size it could only be too small. Other than that it should fit.

Carbon uppers have a different cap than alloy uppers. Sounds like they sent you the wrong one. Simple enough solution, but no riding till you get it swapped unless your shop can pull one off a bike for you.....

Whole problem would have been avoided with everything if I would have just taken the lefty off this bike and shipped it to you Mendon :/

My lefty DLR2 cap (alloy fork) worked on my carbon uppers...how come?
Are you referring to the newer models?

Can't speak for the older model dampers etc, just simply that the PBR damper has two possible top caps, one for carbon, and one for alloy.

There's a different one for XLR's too, but that's not relevant here.....
