    Crossmax lefty hub swap

I have currently on my setup a set of crossmax lefty sl, the rear finally went ( crack) I can get a good deal on a set of crossmax st right now but not lefty front wheel. Can I just swap the lefty hub from my current set? The prize difference to buy the set with the lefty front hub already is about $350 more so if I can just use my hub that would be great. Thanks for any help

You would have to reuse your old spokes too because the flange width/spacing is different and thus the spoke lengths different. Thus, all you would be doing is swapping the rim -- which unless you have a good reason to do so (i.e. if your front rim is damaged) it would be a pretty pointless exercise. I hate to ask the obvious - but why not just buy only a new rear wheel if your front is still in good shape?

Data point, you cannot reuse Mavic aluminum spokes. When they get tensioned, the deform enough that they cannot be rethreaded into the rim.

Gotta use new ones, any time you remove one.....

I wondered about that. I've never relaced a Mavic rim. The few times I've replaced spokes on mine or friends' rims I've cringed at how those aluminum spokes don't restore to their original shape after being deformed. Those aluminum nipples can be a PITA too when they get a bit oxidized.

That might be a good rule of thumb, but I had no such issues swapping a slr mavic lefty hub on my c29ssmax rim. I reused everything.

Geez, that's lame! So, those expensive spokes are single use only?

Again, another good reason not to get 'system' wheels.

    Hey Guys,
Even though I comment on here time to time officially for Mavic I'm gonna give you an unofficial answer. The stance from Mavic is that you should always use new spokes when replacing wheels. The reason for this is because the end of the spoke nipple can deform and make it a little more difficult to get the spokes started when threading them which can lead to cross threading or galling. If you're careful you should be able to use the spokes without a problem, I've done it and seen it done many times.. Hope that info is helpful.
