    Cannondale F500 with Road-Wheels

    Hello from Berlin/Germany!

I have a question concerning an older F500 MTB-bike equipped with CAAD3-Frame and Super Fatty M -Fork:

I would like to attach disc-brakes and RoadRacing-Wheels (700c/25) to get a city-bike, comparable to the "bad boy ultra".

Does anyone know if such wheels fit into this MTB-frame without problems? Ive heard from someone that it is possible, since the "bad Boy"-Bike has quite the same frame but Im not shure if hes right.

    Thanks in advance, arne

I have heard about doing this, too, but never really looked in to doing it. The idea being road tires are about the same diameter as mountain tires, so they will fit the frame and fork without touching anything. Disc brakes are needed because road rims are larger in diameter and rim brakes will not line up. Some company, maybe Mavic, sells wheels just for this...disc hubs laced up with road rims. There is no reason you could not do it yourself, though. I would recommend using the same hubs as your off road wheel set so the disc and cassette are in the exact same location on both wheelsets and no adjustments will be needed between wheelsets.

    Polk nailed it.

Just use the same type of disc hubs, so there are no alignment issues with the brakes. It will work fine.

    thanks!

Thank you both; I will give it a try.

Unfortunately the F500 turned out to have a simple mechanic Fatty without the oil-damping cartridge so I am reluctant to buy it...

    Greetings, arne
