    Brakes for my Flash 3 (2010)

    Hi’

    I am considering upgrading the brakes for my Flash 3 (2010) as I am not satisfied with the Avid Elixir R.

    However, can someone help in terms of which mounting system I shall buy in case of upgrade; post mount or IS?

    I will keep 160/160 mm setup for rotors.

    I am considering the following brakes; Formula R1 or Formula RX or Magura MT4 – Please feel free to comment!

    What is wrong with the Avid R? Squeaking or breaking power?

    i'd go with the magura because they make fecking good brakes! i haven't tried the mt range yet but aiming to get hold of a set in the new year. the 09 marta's on my flash are flawless, especially with the newer storm SL rotors.

    Avid brakes are the opposite of impressive, I gave them a few chances but they just dont feel too good and every model I tried made scary noises.

    Some Formulas work great, my old Oro Puros were wonderful but my R1 had overheating issues, bad to the point they cooked and completely seized. So I feel sweet & sour about the brand.

    I haven't tried Maguras... Heard great things though.

    I would add Shimano to the list. The only disc brakes I have never had any problems with, very reliable and consistant, a bit boring and not too light but if I needed to buy new brakes today, I think I'd go for XTR... Good performance and trouble-free gets my vote.

    Thank you very much sharing your experiences. Am I correct that;
    Front = IS standard
    Rear = Post mount

    For C’dale Flash 2010

    i believe the flash alloy 2010 frame is IS rear mount, carbon PM. i don't know what you have in regards to the fork, if a lefty - they are IS mount.

    i guess for the ease of adjustably post mount is the standard now, (there will be something else before we know where we are!!!), but there is literally adapters galore available for both standards.
