    Better Value? Help on.. 2014 F29 Carbon 3 v 2013 Alloy 1

I'm down to two bikes. I can get the 2014 F29 Carbon 3 for $3000 out the door price. Or I can get the 2013 F29 1 (alloy) on a close out for $2050 out the door. I have not ridden the carbon version. The 2013 seems like a good deal. The drive train, brakes, etc isn't really an upgrade so it's really a wash there if not a slight lean to the alloy 1. Basically is it worth a $1,000 for the ride of carbon on the trail?. I can't imagine the weight is worth the difference in price as they should be close. Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

Well I just got an alloy 1 and I love it! Great riding bike and it is fast! It only weighed 24.3 lbs stock. I can't say enough about the bike! Climbs really great and downhill is amazing! Is nimble and pretty forgiving of my new no riding butt!LOL I really don't regret buying it at all. They had a carbon 2 for $2600, I just couldn't justify it when the alloy is so nice! I guess it boils down to how much you want to spend! I blew the budget by $1100 on the alloy!
    Good luck

Get the alloy. I love my f29 3, but for a grand less the Alloy is a steal.

"I wish I'd bought a little less bike!" Said no one ever. Carbon is better. What about the wheels? If the wheels are a significant upgrade, I'd go for the carbon.

Can't argue that!! Thats what I told myself when buying the alloy! Was way past my pricepoint as it was!

Not a big difference in wheel set either. Normally only a few hundred bucks between the top alloy and the bottom carbon. Similar builds. In this case its a close out 13 on the alloy is making the price difference so good. Heck for the grand difference I could get a really nice wheel set. But that carbon all black 14 is sweet looking. Trying to keep that out of the equation. haha

The carbon is worth 600 more, not 1000.

Now my shop threw me a bone to chew... 2014 Alloy 5. Which is Deore front, slx rear and m615 crank, Deore and slx breaks and shifters. Out the door $2500 but with a wheel upgrade to the Easton carbon wheels that came on the high end carbon in 2013. He has a set that we warranty wheels. Those wheels retailed between $1500 and $1800.
For $500 more I can have a 2014 stock Carbon 3 or for $500 less (1950) he can get me a close out alloy 1 from 2013 which is x9,x7. Now I've got a choice in the middle. Not

So now alloy 5 with big wheel upgrade but lower components 2500 or stock carbon 3 for 3000. Or 13 alloy 1 for 1950. Damn what a pain shouldn't be this hard. Haha

No the 2013 alloy doesn't include the wheels as he would have to order it from cannondale. They have a few left. If so I would have already jumped and fast. Haha. Of course for not much I could upgrade a few things on the 14 alloy. I was hoping to get the carbon 3 down a little but he is firm on that one. Popular bike. He has a few of the alloy 5 so maybe he needs to move it and the wheels are good bait. Makes sense. Getting back into mtn biking after staying on the road for few years. Currently have a 08 GF hifi 29er but its a tank racing. Love my HiMod Synapse on the road.

To me if you ride a Himod Synapse it should be a total no brainer and go with the carbon. For me I have a '10 Synapse carbon 5 and did some upgrades to it. I the bought a 12 Flash 29R carbon. I have a thing for carbon though and would never go back to alloy. That is just me. I got carbon wheel sets on both. You have to decide what you can afford and what works for you though. I still have my last 26" race mtn bike which is a Kestrel CSX. Once I went carbon I never went back to steel or alloy.

I have been riding some carbon road bikes and I guess I understand a bit more on the road the carbon sentiment. on the dirt with my alloy I don't know how much diff it makes? I was in the same boat as you were between the trail sl2, f29 5 and the f29 1. The f29 1 was $1699 and the f29 5 was $1500. Did he look for a 2013 f29 5? there was some from Cannondale for $1500 a couple months ago. Almost pulled the trigger on that one, then found the alloy 1 for $1500.They also had some alloy 4's left for $1600. Shop also had a 13 carbob for $2400. Any of the bikes we talked about are bada$$! If money isn't a problem then maybe I would go for the carbon but can tell you that you won't regret any of em! they are all SWEET! Just takes a little while to stop looking at the shock over the bars!!!Tough call GOOD LUCK WITH THAT ONE!
BTW I am supposed to ride a Synapse 6 105 today from the shop! Rode it in the lot but they are turning me loose on the bike trail with it! Right nice ride!
    flash and synapse,nice combo!
