    bent my sprocket?

    i was riding my buddies bike and i changed gears going up hill while standing up and the smallest sprocket on the front bent in half. how did this happen?

    The force of your full weight on the drivetrain while shifting caused it to bend. If you had tried shifting the rear while standing you would have ruined your cassette too. Try to shift while there is little or no strain on the drivetrain.

    That's mountain biking.

    That's why I like to run low end components so it doesn't hurt so bad.

    My new DH bike came with XO components. I pulled them off and replace them with X-7s. I'll probaby put the X0's on my Prohet which I don't crash as often.

    Live and learn now go buy your buddy a new chainring.
