I have 2x6 with BB30 Afterburner 386 using a Sram Force front derailleur. It works. It is at it's limit, but it works. Maybe an ultegra triple front derailleur would give you some more flexability?

The Red cassette will clog up if you ride in mud. Cross bikes built with SRAM always have DA 12-27 cassettes.

Yes, or SRAM Force (OG-1070) cassettes. Stay away from Red if you plan on riding off road.
