    2013 lefty hybrid question

I hope this is a simple question. Can a 2013 lefty hybrid 29er with 90mm of travel be converted to 120mm of travel for 26" wheels?

    Thanks!

Nope. 26 and 29 chassis are separate beasts now, much as that pains me, it's true.

I'm just wondering, but can you at least shim the 26" model so that you could use a 29" wheel on it? I know you can't go the other direction, and that it probably isn't a good idea to do so now that they have a stronger Lefty for the 29" wheel system.

You'll lose bearing reset function to begin with, and I believe there's a few other things that happen. I'm no expert on the ins and outs of these aspects yet, so I can't speak with utter confidence.

You mean ditch the handlebar lockout? I'm sure thats possible since the damper hasn't changed. New parts would be needed for the damper topcap and a new collar would be needed. If it were me, I wouldn't mess with it.

Yes, that's exactly what I'd like to do, drop the remote handle bar X-Lock from the carbon and go to the PBR from the Alu. The X-lock is giving problems across 4 forks. And there is a small weight saving.

My latest pet peeve with the big C.

You can buy the top collar needed. You can buy the XLR control, by itself. You can buy the PBR control unit, by itself.

But you cannot buy the small, two piece, stainless unit that is needed to go from XLR to PBR. So you can easily "upgrade" as that piece is removed to go to XLR, but you are not allowed to buy the parts needed to "downgrade", WTF?

You need to buy a whole damper, for the lack of a what I can assume is a sub $20 part being made available.

And carbon offerings do not come with a PBR option.

I hear it all the time, "I want the carbon, but I don't want the XLR, I want the PBR", (for any number of reasons).

I guess some bean counter thought fewer SKU's and more profit for shareholders was a win win......

And yes, (theoretically), it can be done, but the whole damper needs to be torn down including the damper shaft, in order to do it.

Basically it should be done if you find someone who wishes to upgrade his PBR to XLR ...

I did not realize my 140 mm carbon pbr was such an oddity and desired.... I just ride the piss out of it and pull the bugs out of my teeth
Lead by my Lefty............... right down the trail, no brakes.
