    2009 Scalpel Front Derailleur

I'm in the process of swapping parts from a Caffeine frame to an aluminum Scalpel. The Caffeine has a 34.9 seat tube vs. 31.8 for the Scalpel. I have to either get a shim or a new front derailleur. If I decide to get a new derailleur it seems I can get a better deal on a low clamp version as opposed to the high clamp mount found on the stock Scalpel.

It appears a low clamp FD would fit without problems. Is there any reason not to use a low clamp FD on the Scalpel?

    Thanks

It will work fine. The stock specs use a high clamp because they're usually a tad lighter. But what derailleur are you looking to get? many are one size only and are provided with shims anyway...

    Dan,

Thanks for the confirmation. Since the current derailleur came with the Caffeine, I don't have the shim that's normally shipped with the derailleur when purchased separately. I'm loath to spend more on shipping than the shim so I may splurge and pickup a discounted X9 or XT.

I thought a LBS would have some shims lying around from new bike setups but I was unable to source one locally.
