    2002 F800 chainset

I want to swap out the chainset on my 2002 F800, for an XT hollowTech but need to know:
    a) if my bb is Octalink (which i think it is)
    b) what size crank length?

    Thanks in advance!

None of this matters with respect to replacing the chain.

All you need to do is install the new chain and remove the appropriate number of links for your setup. There are several methods for sizing the chain, so if you do a search, you will find many variations.

If you need to know the answers to A&B for other reasons, we can't really help because we don't know if the bike is stock or had some parts swapped. Best to get pictures or model numbers of the parts if you have questions.

You can measure your own cranks with a ruler, from the center of the pedal spindle to the center of the bb spindle.

google can help convert inches to mm by typing ____inches to millimeters

I just realized that you might be looking to replace your crankset (as opposed to chain). You have to remove your old ones to see what kind of BB you have. Also, you don't "need" to install the same length. Install what is comfortable for you.
Factors to consider: weight, stiffness, size, budget, color/look, ISIS/Square taper/octalink.

    Good Luck

Hollowtech XT cranksets are sold with an integrated bb. In that case you'll be removing and discarding your old octalink bb. The most common crank length is 175mm.

If the XT cranks are from 2002 they should use a standard Octalink BB rather than the integrated version. But, like previously stated just buy a chain (either 8 or 9 speed) and size it to your existing one.

P.S. By 'chainset' i meant the 'crankset' (although i have always called it a chainset)
