    08 Prophet lost it's look?

I got my first glimpse at the 08 Prophet tonight on C'dale's site. Yeah, Fox makes some great forks. I'm sure the performance is there... but IMHO the kick-ass Prophet appears to have lost it's luster. I dare say it looks like a fancy beach cruiser without the signature Lefty pointing the way.

Before flaming me for such blasphemous comments (I'm the proud owner of an 07 Prophet, Lefty equipped...) my comments are based on looks alone. I hope to see some great reviews of this year's line at some point in the near future.

    Long live the Lefty...

I though that the original lefty was 140mm...now the max is 110mm: http://www.cannondale.com/suspension/08/

Has Cannondale finally realized that one leg is just not enough? If yes, then that is a right move forward. 08 will find the buyers for sure.

That is a DLR not a MAX. By the way.. exactly why would one leg not be enough? Are humans so strong they they can bend a large metal strut?

I see, so MAX is no longer an option for 2008....you can certainly have one leg forks, it just can be more of a challenge for R&D.

Do you know why MAX was dropped from production?

No more challenge for R+D than any other issue. Most forks carry all the guts in one side any way, always have. All one needs to do at that point is add a spring in the mix and you're off to the races. Since the Lefty has been in production since 2000, and having relatively few issues, none being related to it's one legged status, I would say the arguements based on one leg are pretty much just unrequited envy

As to the Max being dropped, it has to do with market share, marketing and a bit of bad luck. They have more models sporting DLR2's, a developing freeride/AM market that as a whole doesn't buy into one leg being sufficient, though what a majority of these riders actually do, versus what they "see" themselves doing, is more than covered by a Lefty. All this, combined with Manitou being bought out (they built the Max internals), the new owners not wishing to play with Cannnondale, and a Cannondale that is currently owned by a bunch of pencil pushers who care as much for cycling as the do for toilet paper futures, you have a nice recipe for the demise of the best, iteration of Lefty, Cannondale ever produced.
