    Crampons v's Crampon Ultimate

For the past few months I've been unclipped after about 7 years of being locked down. Did a enduro a couple of weeks ago and for some reason at the last moment I clipped back in. Now I'm back on the platform program, convinced that for the type of riding platforms are the way to go.

So lets hear about it, undoubtedly these pedals are up there with the best available . On paper its pretty clear what the differences are but I'd like to hear from those who have had time on them both. Is one better than the other, or do they both offer a unique quality that the other is missing? What's the maintenance like? Let it all out!

Nice, like the second pic it displays the profile differences nicely. Surely you guys have had some time on both set's, which set do you prefer?

I haven't spent much time on the Crampons, but my friend has them and I've goofed around on his Endorphin. I prefer the body shape my Ultimates and the feel that gives them. Plus they don't tend to squeak as much with the spindle hidden inside the body. If you're not in urgent need of pedals, I'd definitely wait a few weeks for the Ultimates. They really are a great pedal.

Hold out for the Ultimates. Recently purchased the originals as the Ultimates were sold out, good pedals but the spindle/shoe squeak drove me nuts. Foot placement was an issue for me as well. The. Newer design should eliminate these issues. Not to steer you away from Canfield but I just put on some Straitline Amps and really like them.

Don't think they have the crampons anymore.

I have a set of the ultimates in magnesium & normal. I really like them both. SMT on here has been on his for 2-3 seasosns and they are good to go.

We have 3 models and are usually all in stock. We are always cycling through tons of colors so maybe a little hit and miss on unique colors. The web store shows current stock. I see 10 Ultimate colors and 8 mag colors.

I should have picked up a set Ultimates for the Riot, instead I went for the Xpedo Sprys because they were basically half the price. Nice lite pedal, seems robust but the grip is not sufficient. If a set of their spike pins don't fix the problem I'll bite the bullet and grab some Ultimates.

If you don't care about colors you can get some gold ultimates for $99.99
Classic also available for $99.99 but I wouldn't recommend those unless you like to hear your shoe squeak while pedaling up the hill

You can always use some Greased Lightning cleaner or oven cleaner to remove the anodizing if you prefer a raw aluminum finish to the color. Takes about 10-15 minutes per pedal. Wear gloves!

It's tough for me to say for sure as I we don't have anything from Hope in the office. From a quick Google search though, I am seeing two different color tones from Hope online:

Our purple ano is much closer to the tone in the second image:

I'm really tempted to do the purple pedals even if they are a tad bit different from the Pro 4's
