I have some WTB Asym i35 rims on blue Hadley hubs, calling for the black frame with blue link. Lot's of other parts too, but deciding on what fork and shock to get. My friend has the MRP, love's it. DVO has the new Sapphire but it's boost only. Trying to keep under 30#. gears will be 2x11 XT8000 and brakes.

The frame is not 2x compatible. Drop the XT cassette and go with a Sram GX and save a bunch of weight.

here's my build... few carbon bits like wheels (derby), crank (raceface), and bar (cromag). canfield pedals, hope race evo e4 brakes and i forgo the dropper post for a paul clamp. the logic behind this is that i save weight and i don't adjust my seatpost height that much. it is either up or down.

Nice build. My Derby wheels have been great on my Balance. So building a Riot with them too. I would get a dropper with remote. Extra weight be damned. I use it so much for everything. Makes you ride your bike different. Only time it's up is long pedaling sections, long climbs or resting my legs. Everywhere else it's out of my way and I can ride it like a bmx bike.

Agreed. Especially with the steep seat tube, dropping the seat just an inch or so helps with flat twisty trails.

Wow... Man, I'm having no problems with my DB Coil IL, but that is scary!!! Was there any warning of any kind? Not that it should matter but what terrain were you riding when this occurred?

No warning - this happened at the base of a big table top, so fortunately I rolled in a heap to the lip, rather than this happening when I landed, which probably would have hurt quite a bit.

This is the warranty upgrade I got after my DbInline blew, I was pretty happy with it, but this is a total confidence killer.

The spring gouged my frame pretty good as a result...awesome.

A quick update on the Shockpocalypse and answer a few questions:

    - Yes, it's a first gen Riot. Shouldn't matter, though.

    - The shock failed at the damper shaft, where the shaft meets the lower eyelet.

Now, a quick word on customer service - I said Cane Creek, never again. That's not really true. I was mad when I posted because I walked out of the woods with a crazy failure, and while I'm not happy to be on my 3rd shock in 2 years, Cane Creek CS has been fantastic.

When I blew my DbInline, they were all over it, offered me a cheap upgrade to the DBCoilIl that just self destructed. This time, they're again making everything right, letting me drive the process with what I want, 100% upfront with the fact that they owe me one, and really working to make me happy. It isn't canned customer service scripts, it's a real guy (Joseph), who rides, and knows what a hassle and disappointment this is and wants to help me. I really appreciate it.

The Bros are, of course, the Bros. I've been talking to Sean because I mentioned frame damage...

Now, the plot thickens. You can see in the pic I posted how the spring end is resting on the little tube that runs across the lower pivot castings - the spring gouged that tube. Sent the bros a pic, they comiserated but Lance confirmed that tube is super thick and I was good to ride. Great news.

This afternoon I was tearing the bike down to clean it up, replace the shift cable with the shock took out, and give it a general tune up so it'd be in fighting shape when my new shock arrived. I found more damage.

The yoke/web that stiffens up the rear triangle collided with the seat tube and buckled it - more pics to the Bros and they'll get back to me.

All around, a bummer, but Cane Creek stands by their product and legitimately is working hard to make it right for their customer (me), and the Bros are all over this as well, making sure I'm happily and safely Rioting away ASAP.

The customer service is one of the reason that I run both products. Both companies have gone above and beyond for me before. Unlike two others, that I yeti to mention because it is such a specialized marketplace and there is always fan boys.

Classic! But you can't forget how rough the Rock Mountains are if you're Kona talk about broken frames with zero after purchase support.

I've got atomik carbon 29 on the riot right now but I'm curios on the plus tires on it. How's the clearance on the diamond I have the same fork. And how's the dvo dropper

I'll get some measurements, and possibly a picture to show the clearance. No way you can use the fender if you go plus because of the design. This is my first dropper post, so I don't have any reference for comparison. I can say it seems solid, and operates smoothly so far.

I know it's over 13", but I can get a more precise measurement when I get back home.

    Edit: Looks like it's 330mm.

I feel like I just took this thing on a 44(edit: oops, make that 34) mile date
We parked at the marina, and played on the flowy trails around the lake that lead to a tame, but very fast little loop that we did 4 times, before doing a couple more similar trail sections.
    Canfield Riot Photo Thread-20171019_124936.jpg
Having buttered it up a little, we did some punchy climbs along, and fast descents between, ridgelines with a mix of trail surfaces. Then we took things back to ground level before getting into some technical climbing, followed by more descending and ascending taller ridges with lots of big, pumpable rollers along, and fast cornering in between. We headed back to the marina, reversing our previous route, but turned things up a notch with a connected trail that has lots of tight twists and turns, along with being very rooty.
Back at the marina, we briefly discussed what we had learned, and made a few adjustments before heading out into a rougher, rootier area that also features some small rock gardens.
I was getting nervous that the Riot might be getting bored with all the constant brief ups and downs, and threw in a surprise trip to the DH course.

Hoping to have satisfied its rowdy side for awhile, I let things calm down for a few minutes before introducing it to the family of gnomes at one of the rock gardens.

And visited some historical sites to make sure it knew how cultured I was and stuff.

    Cultured, but fun

Unfortunately, the BMX track next to the pump track was being worked on, but about half an hour later, we arrived at what used to be the northern-most point of the park. Used to be, because now there was another trail pointing further north that just opened in the past couple weeks. More constant up and down, riddled with twists and turns, but IMBA-style, machine cut, smooth and flowy, with lots of manmade rollers of various sizes, and some bermed turns.
It led to a new parking area that's still under construction, and another large lake that the trail will eventually circumnavigate.

Overdue for departure, and an hour from the car, we turned back, retracing the same route, minus the DH course.

3 laps of the local 5 mile loop yesterday served as a decent intro, but I feel like this was a pretty good "first date", and we know each other a lot better, already.

I hope it doesn't judge me for some of the language that it heard during a few of the climbs on the way back, though, 'cause it's probably not the last time that'll happen

How did everything turn out? Did you just end up going with another CoilIL?

Canfield hooked me up with a no frame, easy.

CC gave me whatever I want, which was a new gen dbAir, after much discussion. I was ripshit when this happened, but cc did take care of me. Great customer service, I just wish I didn't need it so often.

I am in the process of building up my Riot and was curious as to what size chain ring people are running? I am coming from a SS Nimble Nine so I have been out of touch with gearing over the past couple years. I was thinking about running a 1X11 with a 32T front ring. Is there any issue with clearance between the chain ring and stays on this frame? Thanks in advance for the help.

Nope youíre good to go with a 32. Iíve got a 32 on mine, and I believe the Riot is designed around a 30 or 32. Or at least that was my understanding after reading articles regarding the suspension and the balance formula.

Thanks for the reply. One more question, running a 1x11 is there an issue with the chain coming off if you don't run a chain guide?

Totally your call. Some on here run one, I do not. I havenít had any issues with my chain coming off. I do plenty of brutal chunky trails and have had it come off once, on a nasty fall. I think the MRP chainguide gets lots of love from Canfield owners if you decide to go that route.

What inner diameter DERBYs did you build for your riot?

Here's a crappy cell phone photo but who cares.....This is the best bike I have ever ridden. So much praise for the brothers and their view of what makes a bike enjoyable. I have never felt comfortable on the big name bikes but the riot is like an old pair of jeans. Goofing around on some wet local trails I set 2 PR's during her maiden voyage. This bike is an absolute riot. #naileditcanfield. Thank you!

Finally got it built up! It needs a new fork since the 32mm stanchions on this fork is a bit noodly. Iím planning on getting the new ribbon coil fork. Mrp chain guide is on order as well.
