Nice pics! I will hopefully be able to add to the thread as the trails around here might be good to go soon.

Yes and my wrists are loving it. I have my hardtail on my trainer with normal bars and I'm feeling it, going to order another set. I know they are only 720mm wide and not in fashion, but my bars were so narrow on my 2000 Sworks, that my friend once tried the bike and made it a few yards before handing it back and looking at me in disbelieve that I could ride and jump with them, so 720 is huge to me.

Really pissed at myself, bought the first pair a PricePoint when they cleared them out for $80, all gone, should have ordered a 2nd one right away.

Had a fun day on the Riot in Dupont State Forest this weekend. Took a detour from the single track to take in a few impressive waterfalls while I was there.

    Finally!

Thanks to my good friend (whose Evil Wreckoning is in the background) Captain Cobb, my new Riot is assembled. Mostly just a transfer of parts from the Yelli, so not much in the way of "fancy new bits," but overall a very functional bike I intend to beat the hell out of in the morning.

Just shy of 31 pounds at this point. Dropper on the way and I'm looking for the right carbon hoop selection to replace the King/Flow set.

    A few more

Now that the initial build is done, we decided to give the Riot and the Wreckoning a shakedown this morning. A short, technical climb made even more so with the rain and wet rocks.

    Canfield Riot Photo Thread-035.jpg

    Canfield Riot Photo Thread-034.jpg

    Canfield Riot Photo Thread-041.jpg

The descent was a blast, but I've had so many carbon and Ti bikes that the sound of the rocks bouncing off the down tube and the chain slap had me confused for a minute Once I realized nothing was broken or breaking I opened it up a bit more and really enjoyed the ease of popping off the rock ledges. Looking forward to some more familiar trails next weekend.

This bike is something else!! Absolutely loving all aspects of riding it...The tech climbing is simply ridiculous.

Congrats, bike looks killer! You're going to come to appreciate that Al frame if you're a real aggressive rider IMO. Just think, every rock you were hearing ping off the down tube, could be a potential deal breaker for a carbon frame. The first time you lay it down, you will be real happy it's Aliminum IME, lol. Both those bikes look badass.

Aw yeah love that blue/orange Gulf steez...

I ran into brother Lance out riding his Riot the day before Outerbike. He was running 165mm cranks on his. It felt a little wierd when he let me take it for a spin but I'm intrigued with the setup. Anyone else running 165mm cranks? Are there advantages other than clearance?

I really need to get some better pics

I don't know if I'll get around to taking "nice" photos, but I'm really happy with the way this one came out. I'd be all over some red or blue decals.

The fork is a 2016 34 with the Fit4 cart and boost spacing. Wheels are Nextie 40/Hope Pro4 front with Nextie 35R/Hadley rear with Sapim spokes. The 2.4 Goma in front is a beast. Everything else is pretty self explanatory.

Thanks to this forum for providing a bunch of inspiration and nudging me over edge on this purchase. I've got 8 or so hours on this bike so far and it's exceeding expectations despite still working out the kinks.

Thanks, from a purely aesthetic point of view I probably should have opted for blue links, the red kinda gets lost. From a radness point of view, this bike is off the charts. I purchased this frame with the goal of increasing the fun and control in the steep and chunky bits. I was not expecting it to climb every bit as well as my previous bike despite the weight gain.

I was riding an Intense Spider with 140 Stage and -1.5 Angleset. Similar wheelset/tire setups, same cockpit and drivetrain.

The stiffer/shorter rear end on the Riot is immediately noticeable. The seated position is quite similar but the extra reach is very noticeable (and appreciated) when attacking downhill.

It may just be my new bike honeymoon but I'm surprised how much pop there is in a bike that is also so well composed. I wanted more control in the chunkier stuff and I ended up with plenty of that with a nice dose of boost-off-every-feature-you-find.

The Riot definitely feels like a mini DH bike in the chunk. Congrats!

I think you should name it "Captain 'Murica"

    Thanks for the reply Dusty.

That sounds promising! Did you go for a 150 fork or stick with the 140, also what wheel/tyre set up?

Stuck with 140 as 150 will void the warranty.

No. My rims and tires weigh roughly the same as my 29er wheels.

No to that one too. With more grip comes more speed. I am running high teens in the back and about 14 in the front.

I found the same thing, if anything, the 27.5+ setup rolls better/ faster. It erases the small bumps and allows you to just roll thru without a slight hangup. I see this being a great option for places that are rough. 18 psi rear, 15 psi front.

I don't feel like they really compare to the Trailblazers. They have better traction, better knob, better sidewall protection.

They are bigger, so they have a little less clearance. I am a big fan.

Between these and the Brrakouts, it would be a fun shootout

    Honestly not sure anything will.

My Lenz isn't selling for one, just a bunch of low ballers. 3 bikes just isn't flying with the wife- she sees a Frame, fork and wheel set as a 3rd.

I work from home, so my lunch rides are on hiker trails out my front door, no jumps or anything- so my Carver is fine for that.

The Riot was for my weekend rides, but since the Lenz isn't moving and I have to eliminate one, it's the Riot since I have a better chance of selling that. Not what I want to do, only had one ride on it earlier this week, but it is what it is.

Hey Phil, Are you liking that HD/ Ikon tire combo on the Riot? I'm changing the build on my Following as I'm heading towards Brevard next week and was going to run this same combo on my I9/ Derby wheels.

Rolls really fast compared to the DHRII and SS combo I was running before. Had to get used to not pushing the front as much as it was sliding it bit on loose over hard stuff but once I came to terms that it wasn't a Minion I really enjoyed the faster rolling and it had heaps of grip on rocks and loamy soil. The Ikon rear was great as always, I really love that tyre. Doesn't have the overall grip of other meatier tyres but when it does let go it's really predictable and fun.

Thanks, I'm glad you like them paired. I own both of these tires and like them. I've just not paired them together before. I've also got a DHF/ DHR2 combo on another set of wheels and I figured the HD/Ikon combo would be faster rolling with descent grip but not the ultimate traction of the Minions.

I'm about to pull the trigger on a Riot and have a question. How does the bike feel when climbing out of the saddle? I'm planning on running mine as a single speed. I know, I know, I've already heard it all. I'm a single speeder, hardtail or full squish.

So, does the bike squat a great deal while standing and mashing? From what I've read this bike sounds like a great platform for a full squish SS.

    THanks

I wouldn't say it squats a lot for a 140mm bike, but I think it behaves better while seated.

I wouldn't expect it to feel like my hardtail while climbing, but so long as it doesn't blow through the travel while mashing I'd be good.

Got a new frame from the bros due to shock misalignment on my first gen. Just felt the need to post as their customer service is unreal. Always prompt email replies and I got a new frame after 9 days after I shipped my old one to them. Oh yea, the bike is an absolute winner too.

Congrats man, and I'll second that. I was another with the frame misalignment from the initial run. Taken care of right away when the new frames came out, no issues at all. They kept me in the loop without having to keep on them, keep following up, keep emailing, etc... Their CS is awesome. Very refreshing to deal with a company like Canfield, it's not common.

    Short Cranks...

You can Google "short crank benefits" to research more, but this sums it up pretty well from a "roadie" perspective: Are shorter cranks better? - Cycling Weekly

The idea is that you can achieve the same max power output more efficiently, using less oxygen, blah, blah, blah.

Chris Canfield likes to compare it to taking two steps at a time vs. four steps at a time jogging up a flight. Which will get you more winded?

I haven't gone that short myself on a trail bike yet, so no experience to speak from, but that's the general idea. YMMV.

Have had mine for a couple of weeks now, this is a modest build, nothing fancy apart from an AVA modded fox float. Size large and I'm 186cm(6"1'), fits like a glove. Before ordering I went back and forth between L and XL, L was right. We have a lot of choppy, technical trails, nothing smooth and manmade, so figured nimble is preferred to superstable. Amazing at slow steep technical rockcrawling, going downhill it just makes one laugh. I went with 170mm cranks, a little weird at the first rides, now I don't think about it.
This is a valuable pic of kit and deserves a proper guard:
