Anyone have a Monarch on their Balance?

Hey all, I have a '16 Balance in the build. I bought it with a Jade coil, but I also have a Monarch Plus RC3 from a '15 Nomad that I'd like to be able to run on the Balance if I'm looking for something lighter.

I was wondering if anyone has tried a Monarch on their Balance, how it went and what their tune was? The shock I have is an ML tune, I'm wondering if it's worth getting it revalved or send it off to Avalanche or similar to be set up correctly for the Balance?

    Any insight appreciated!

I guess no one does, which is good.
You should only take off the Jade coil to put a Monarch Plus RC3 on the Balance, if you:
    1. want to do a xc race
    2. are trying to win a weight winnie contest

If my memory serves me correctly, the Monarch was one of the shocks that the Canfield bros. didn't recommend for the bike. I'm not sure exactly why, since it is basically no different from the DVO Topaz that they're spec'ing the bikes with now.

After seeing the Topaz teardown, it seems like the Monarch might actually be a superior shock...so i'd say go for it!

Always good to have options. And plenty of Balance riders are using air shocks, so I'm interested to see the difference.

Interesting. Perhaps I'll send them an email and see what's up.

    But of course.
And since you have it already, just give it a try.

I never did it! I did use an M/M tuned Vivid Air for about 15 rides through Washington, Utah and Colorado and it was okay at best. To get any plushness (which wasn't a huge amount) I had to have no high or low compression damping, and almost no rebound. I would not recommend it - perhaps another tune might have been better. The pedal bob was naught though!

I bought a Cane Creek Valt spring for my Jade which dropped the overall weight by about 400g.
