It's water-cut from two 3/16 plates of stainless steel to give the 3D look. The back plate painted black then tig welded together. 2" stainless square tube tig welded for the hitch part.

Cased a double and snapped my bars. Midair I could tell I didn't have the height and prepared for impact. I walked away from this one with just a couple of scratches.

So I suppose I'm in the market for new bars. What do people like for carbon bars these days? I see a lot of SIXC and Renthal in my neck of the woods.

These were old (ca. 2012) Easton Havoc that had seen better days, 750mm/20mm rise/31.8 clamp, with a 60mm stem. How do folks feel about 35mm clamps?

    I'm 6'0, 32" inseam, on a Large balance. I might go a little wider, perhaps 760-780mm with a 50mm stem.

I run 35mm havens on my riot and love them. Done everything from xc rides to days at keystone bike park. I am waiting to decide if I like these atlas 2 bars I have on my balance right now. If not I'm going with 35 havens.

Love my SIXC 800mm, with 35mm dia. stem, at 50mm length. On a large Balance. 35 length felt short. Changed after a couple of rides. After riding the 800mm bars everything else feels to narrow. This is what I'm going to run on all my bikes. You get use to leaning the bike over to miss trees. Some tree gates are tricky. My pinkies move automatically. Ha.

Had one of those Thompson stems. One stout beautiful piece. It went with my TBLT when I sold it. If I didn't go with 35 dia., that's what I would get. Running RF Atlas.

And you weren't carrying the manufacturers approved carbon repair kit?

Glad you walked away from that! Could have been painful.

I have 800mm Six C bars (35mm) on a 40mm stem and I love the way they ride. However I can't recommend them. I had a crash that snapped an almost brand new set of SixCs last summer. It wasn't that hard of a crash and I couldn't believe they broke. I told my mechanic about it and he said he has seen quite a few broken SixCs. Had one right there in his shop.

Raceface did a crash replacement but it only 20% off MSRP which was disappointing. I think I would seriously consider enve for the next set, just based on their crash and warranty policy.

    Captain Ahab

Just got back from a Moab trip. Rode Captain Ahab with some buddies. Two of us were on the Balance and there were a few inquiries about our bikes. Of course, I told everyone how amazing this bike rides. We climbed all the slow tech stuff and made it down without a hiccup. I think we were the oldest riders on Ahab that day. The young whippersnappers were surprised how well we rode that day. I told them it was the bike...

Yeeeesssss. Oh yes. That's awesome. Sorry, I've been out of town and missed your post. Did you happen to compress the suspension to see if the tire would hit the frame?
