Some pics from thunder mountain bike park in Massachusetts. What a sick bike, this was my first weekend riding it and it felt so much at home

The well mannered Balance, a less common species, quietly resting in its natural habitat.

Just finished building my 2017 Balance. Only a couple rides on the new bike, but so far it's a lot of fun. Climbs great, descends as you'd expect from Canfield.

Very nice. Looks like you did some major polishing on the raw. What was your process?

    Thanks for the compliments!

The hand-polishing process was pretty simple. I didn't do any wet-sanding or steel wool work. I taped off the links and headset.
I bought a roll of blue shop towels and Mother's Aluminum Polish. I did a test spot and couldn't believe how much it shined up, so I went all in. The frame still has factory-sanded marks and scratches, but I kind of like the texture. It took me about 4 hours. It was quite the satisfying process watching the shine come alive!

Outstanding results sriracha! My '17 Balance is Black Ano, but I've also picked up a raw Jedi this fall.

It could definitely use some polishing. I spent about 10 minutes with some super fine steel wool and touched it up a bit. I also did a test with some Mother's but it mostly turned the factory marks black, and took a bit to buff it back clean. Didn't come out anywhere near what yours looks like.

Of course, I didn't spend four hours, and I've had that tin of Mother's since 1993! Used to use to shine up a GT RTS-1 and a set of Cook Brothers Cranks to near mirror shine, so seeing your balance all polished like that takes me down memory lane.

I know what I'll be doing in to my Jedi over the winter! After I get a fresh tin of Mother's that is.

I would apply the polish in a small area and proceed to polish. When the Mother's turns black, I then used a fresh clean rag to polish the black away. I would then use that rag to apply the Mother's in the next area and polish away with a fresh rag again. I ended up using an entire roll of blue shop rags.

Sean from Canfield and Chris Canfield both wet sanded and used steel wool to remove any scratches and then polished with Mother's, to achieve a smooth mirrored finish. I talked to Sean about it. It took him about 16 hours with the sanding. But their frames are mirror polished. Mine is just shiny with texture.
