2015 Canfield Brothers Riot 29er FS

Anyone who has ridden a Balance want to chime in with some suspension comparisons to other designs like DW link, Banshee KS link, etc?

If the chainstay is in the 17-17.25 inch range, I'm in.

I'm currently loving my Evil Following, but this could make a nice stablemate.

Sweet, @ 2" is a smart choice.. I don't get along with smaller shocks in the 1" range.

Anybody know the wheelbase for L & XL?

Any idea on frame weight? More or less than the balance? Hoping the complete package with shock is no more than say 7 - 7.5 lbs

Now lets get to some speculation: a 2.5:1 leverage ratio would give 142.5mm travel; 3:1 gives 171.
(for reference the One had a 2.86, Balance 2.81) Seems like the Riot will be 150-160? That's a big 29er...

It feels like spring here in Surrey, UK, but as there is no further info on the Riot I must be mistaken.

If the bb could be kept to ~13.75" w/ that amount of travel, the BB drop would be so woooo! ISCG05, and a lower link like the Jedi tucked up and out of rocks! That link setup might allow for some rearward axle path action too!

And, maybe 1.5" HT so the front stack can be kept shorty ZS/ZS cups? Longish top tubes for good reach and also we can run shorty stems.

Where do I rank for e-speculations?

I'd like to see the Bros forgo the front mech to get shorty stays, ISCG05, and a lower link like the Jedi tucked up and out of rocks! That link setup might allow for some rearward axle path action too!

And, maybe 1.5" HT so the front stack can be kept shorty and much more adjustable headset angles w/ the Works Component units...say 100mm ZS/ZS cups? Longish top tubes for good reach and also we can run shorty stems.

Where do I rank for e-speculations?

Honestly all these new standards suck. I've never felt my current wheels were too flexy etc. That said, I was in the market for either a Riot or Following but will now put my purchase on hold to see where things shake out. Again, the current standard is fine, but at the cost of a new frame, fork and wheels I want to be sure what I'm buying is up to date and wont dive in re-sale like 26" wheels.

that's why my yelli has a singlespeed rear hub with 8 cogs on, and why I'm hoping the new Riot will not miss the 148mm option.

No worries, in fairness I got my wheels at a discount years ago. They are the only 29er wheels I've ever ridden and slightly overbuilt w 36h hubs.

Once the info comes out, full geo and approximate weights would be nice. Hoping this frame doesn't break the 8lb mark w shock. Love my process, just wish I could build it up a pound or two less.

I have a Process 111. Also Canfield Balance and Nimble 9. None of these bikes are light. But all are tough and built to last. I've cracked carbon mtb frames and now prefer metal bikes if I'm riding anything technical. If you wan't light, there's the new Evil Following. But heaven forbid you crash anywhere near a rock. Carbon is strong and stiff but not hard and tough. And the Canfield suspension design lets the bike pedal like a lighter bike for it's travel. I expect it will pedal better than my process.

Agree with most of what you have said and I don't think I'm in any place to tell Canfield how to build their frames. That said, I rode Turners for many years and never considered them as under built. At 7.5 lbs (w shock) for an XL Sultan or Burner I think these numbers are realistic. As for my process 111, it kills and the weight isn't a major concern, though I certainly don't think it (or any all mountain frame) needs to be heavier.

    Cf?

Yes, get with it! And as long as we're not getting any official info, let's swing the rumor mill a bit .

Just watched the Jeremy Jones edit on Youtube again (https://youtu.be/hLqy-c0_vOs) in slow-mo. At 0:53, doesn't that headtube section look awfully smooth? Carbon fiber? I remember Vin mentioning something (summer 2014) about possibly bringing out a bike from a material that was new to CB...

Doesn't look like the massive Balance upper link to me, too fragile. Also looks like a DB Inline, which I haven't seen on any Balance build yet.

As for smoothness and CF, yeah, that may actually be wishful thinking...

Quite a bit of lens distortion there, front end looks like it's definitely the shorter wheelbase with 60-70mm stem philosophy (vs longer WB shorter stem).. Man I need to know XL seat tube length soon

Does the headtube look like 1.5"??

Lower shock mount above the chain ring looks like welded alloy pieces. Carbon usually has a more sculpted look and probably would be one piece without the holes.

Head tube / top tube / down tube junction looks like alloy to me as well. Carbon usually looks like one moulded piece (duh!) rather than distinct tube shapes in this area.

Just my two cents. Hopefully we will get the details soon.

We are getting closer to releasing some details.
We are guarding this one a little extra tight. (for good reason)

We should have some details in a few weeks.
We are waiting to see production moving before hand.

At which time, we will open them up for pre-order.

Im heading over to taiwan next week to oversee production.

But, I say this... We could have these out in late June! (if no delays)

At which time, we will open them up for pre-order.

Im heading over to taiwan next week to oversee production.

But, I say this... We could have these out in late June! (if no delays)
Thanks so much for the update. Any info is better than no info. Super stoked to see the bike

Phew, for a second there I thought I'd have to go with the Balance

My hopes are that Riot floats like the N9 and stings like the Balance. I didn't expect to be loving my N9 the way I am, it packs a punch. I guess the ~$2200 question is, Riot or Balance?

crs, for me it would be the balance and i predict early september for the release. i understand, to an extent the delays with mass production, but hopefully CB fluffed the release date for the late june release. everything by the bros is top notch but their dates. sorry guys, but it's worth the wait

Wow, I was ready to either make updates to my process 111 (cb inline) or purchase the following. Think I'll hold off on making any purchases until we hear more.

Don't care, please provide details on the Riot soon! Planning to make some big buying decisions shortly after Sea Otter. Spring is here, no more time for forums, time to ride

The EPO reference on FB is likely the name of the frame. It's in line with their alleged sex partner/act based naming lexicon:

    Everyone's Porked/poked One.

If they are going by the aforementioned cross model continuity, I'm guessing 30.9 mm.

    N9 based.

Off to a good start with orders, I see.

Makes sense for them to enter this market. Remember what their effect had on 29 HT's. Apply that same cleverness to fatties. Could be another winner for their brand.

A carbon N9 would be cool. No one currently makes a carbon 29er like that.

Canfield is about ready to start a riot if they keep holding out. It's nice that they have a carbon frame but start a new thread. I'm getting the pitch forks n torches right now. Who wants one?

But would it be necessary with 142mm spacing?

I'm with you there. I will say that the EPO looks badass, makes me even more excited about what the Riot will be like.

Understood. I doubt we'll see it on the Riot however due to potential chainline issues with the 142 spacing. Now if it was 150mm spacing...

I guess you've all seen this now.
Canfield Brothers EPO Carbon Hardtail 29er

Incredibly bad ass. Those are super short chainstays at 414. When they make an XL I wonder if they'll lengthen those a bit?
