Wheels not the best, came stock on my old Giant Trance but intend to change to Mavic 717 / XT wheels when funds permit !

Bit off topic but the new crank is actually the same weight as the LX at 860g and has a steel middle ring so should last longer.

    2005 Cove

New 2005 frame, xtr cranks + frnt derailuer, stans dt 240 wheel set, 2010 revalation team, xo shifters and rear derailuer, Avid ultimates, king, Easton monkey bar, thomson goodies - somewhere around 23lbs - and its for sale!! I built it up as the ultimate all mountain hardtail - ie good for the ups and downs. It sucks to sell but that good old economy put a bit of a pinch on this summer

Heres a picture of my Handjob taken last weekend at Whinlatter north loop, Cumbria UK.

Just put the 2010 Revelation Race forks on, well happy with them, seem a lot better than the Fox 130mm RLC's that were on.

Had to stroke them down internally to 130mm.

I've went for a Deore crank this time as I picked the crank & BB for under £50. Thats cracking value as far as im concerned and it weighs the same as the LX crank it replaced !!

I cant believe how fast and agile this thing is, downhill is awesome and its not too bad climbing.

    Here's mine

    2010 17.5 frame
    Reba RLT dual air
    XT 3x9 drivetrain
    EA70 AM rise
    Thomson X4 + Elite + SLR XC
    Mavic Crossrides + Nevegal
    Juicy 5 185 + 160 G3
    Time ATAC Alium

I can't imagine running the fork at 120mm... perhaps I'll try 110mm if I can find a 10mm spacer, but 100mm travel is great.

I was debating over getting 2x10 for 2011, as some people were praising the new 10-speed for MTB and whatnot, still I couldn't be happier with the 2011 3x9 XT -- It actually shifts better than my 2x10 Ultegra. Plus I don't have to worry about ruining my chain on rocks and logs, since the big ring can always be replaced by a bashring, and is very useful for speed otherwise.

    What year is this?

    Hello,
I was wondering if anybody out there could tell me what year this Cove HJ XC is from? All I have to go on is this pic.

    Thanks

Prior to 2005. My 2005 looks the same except it doesn't have brake bosses.

    Thanks, Asta
That's what is throwing me off as well. I am putting it at 2003 but I can't seem to find a definitive answer. Even email Cove but I doubt I hear back from them.

Hoping somebody will stumble across the thread and be able to answer for me.

    Hi
Looks like a 2007 (ish), the down tube is round again on the latest ones. FWIW I think the oval tube was better and stiffer, it may also be columbus tubing which has a very nice ride.

Interesting that you say 2007ish because those brake bosses have really thrown me. Thanks for checking in.

I rode the Colorado Trail self-supported on my Handjob back in August, this pic is from the 10th and final day, 500 miles into the ride.

I have started building my brown 2006 17.5" HJ for the 3rd time. This time a singlespeed.

Took the bare frame off from where it was hanging for 2.5 years. Cleaned up dust, mud, all duct tape. Removed all stickers except the maple leaf on the down tube near BB shell. Put a silver bolt-up Thomson seatpost clamp on. Will face BB shell, face and ream headtube, face IS mount.

Right now, despite the not-so-flashy color and some chipped paint, the frame with that Thomson clamp looks beautiful.. in a somewhat classical way, strict but at the same time laid back.. beyond the ability of my old camera to capture images. I just stood there and looked at it for half an hour today, doing nothing (had work to do).

I was going to put a black Hope headset on it (that I have), but am now considering saving up for a silver Cane Creek 110.. the frame's ride quality deserves that kind of pickiness and more.

Gear ratio is going to be 34-17, chain tension done with Yess ETR-B, crankset, a 170 mm Shimano 970 that I got very cheap at CRC back in 2007 (going to be its 3rd frame). Fork, a Manitou franken-Drake with 20 mm thru-axle (white lowers). For seatpost, I've got a GD non-remote 1"-4". Saddle, white Selle Italia SLR XC (to go with white fork). Other parts either black or silver. Wheels will be on Mavic XM819 Disc rims, rear hub, Hadley SS if I manage to get it.
    26" faithful.

    Year of Cove HJ

Hey guys, was wondering if there is an easy way to determine what year my HJ frame is? Just bought a used one and the buyer had said it was an 09, but I do not think it is based on what I have read. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
