What is a Super D race?
Great question! Here is a very unbiased answer from about.com
A biased answer would be: Itís all the FUN of a fun, flowy downhill without all the terrifying parts, and all the challenge of a great XC ride without all the painful never-ending XC climb parts. Itís the best intro to mountain bike racing going! Come out and see!
About Catharine: Catharine Pendrel is the 2011 XC World Champion. Her winning move came of the rocky descents of Champery Switzerland and now sheís her to share years of racing knowledge with you!
WHAT TO EXPECT:
9:00 gather at LUNA tent in gear and ready to go. Bike check. Package pick up for Participants.
9:15-11:30 Clinic with Catharine
Breaking down Super D: The Start, The Run, The Finish. Itís a maximal effort from start to finish where a lot of attention needs to be paid to what happens in between. How do you enter corners to carry max speed, where do you accelerate to carry your speed over a climb into a dh section, how can you pump your bike to save your legs?
Start Practice: Get the most from the gun.
Cornering: The most important skill you can master
Efficiency: Anticipating terrain changes and pumping your bike to build speed
Dispelling myths on body position
Trouble spots on the course, choosing lines, comfort on roll downs and drops.
11:30-1:30 Quick break, grab a snack, ask questions, ask Catharine to watch you through a trouble section and get feedback!
Do your practice runs. The minimal amount you can do to feel comfortable on the course without getting too tired. Ex: Roll one, tempo one
1:00 - make your way to the race start
1:30 - race start
Take some time before your run to visualize it . How you want it to go, where youíll shift, step on the pedals, pump the bike.
Warm up: Keep it simple. Enough to be warm, not enough to fatigue you. Use light gears
Cool down between runs is important: Super easy spinning to flush toxins!
Eat after your race within 30 minutes. Carbs and protein. We will have a post-race BBQ chicken for all attendees!
Awards: Hang out and talk about the day, ask questions, and be sure to get a photo with Catharine.
