Depends on your definition of "good route". If a good route is mostly fire roads, a little double track, 100% sun with no shade, and maybe a 5 minute single track downhill reward, then yes, there is one good route I can suggest.

    Boulder Creek

Anyone interested in a grueling ride with some decent climbing hit me up.

Will be doing a long endurance type ride this coming Sunday in preparation for the Julian Death March. Gonna start in Descanso and head up Boulder Creek road onto Engineer Road through Cuyumaca and then up Sunrise highway into Laguna with a possible loop around Big Laguna trail. Then finally through Pine Valley back into Descanso.

I live in noho, I only do night rides I have good lighting and I do come down fast, fully geared and fully crazy. I ride, Santa Monica mtn, virgenes canyons, cherry canyon, la tuna canyon, fryman canyon, caballero trail...

I can ride Tuesday, Friday and sat nights if anyone is willing to go with me. I do get a bit scared being out there all alone. I usually start at 9-10, end... Whenever 11-1am... I've been doing for 2 years, never seen cats, or bears or anything.

I will be riding down Haskel Canyon in Santa Clarita Sat morn starting at 7am. I have no sepcific ride plan...just want to log some miles and explore back in there.

I am a total noob slowass, so other slowasses welcome or folks who don't mind waiting for slowasses.

    Sycamore Cyn / Beach Side

Likely doing something out Sycamore way, from the beach side (home is Culver City, and w/ the 405 closed, ain't going to make it out to the 101 side, as is usual for us). Not really a "who wants to ride", just tossing it out there. Rolling about 9am tomorrow - Saturday.

I'm sure it'll be: Up the canyon, up Guadalasca Trail, down Wood Cyn Vista (Backbone), and back out. (Mappies)

Look for the green Ventana and the white Knolly!

Say hi (or, ON YOUR LEFT, as you pass! ).
    .
"...when your ride is nearly over, it seems to have lasted but an instant..."

Schweeeew! It was HOT out there today

Hours later and several gallons of water, two gatorades and 100oz camelback on the ride and I'm STILL dehydrated.

I'd call it "heat stroke" to one degree or another.. that was brutal, man. Our second ride in a row of brutality due to excessive heat!

    Sweet trail sections though!!!

another reason i chose the beach. Almost October and the water was 70 deg, good waves to boot.
I'll be riding with ya'll again once it cools down a bit. The heat just destroys me

My buddies and I ride through there fairly often. Personally, I like to climb Caballero, go East on Dirt Mulholland, take Bent Arrow back down to Mulholland and then drop back down Caballero for a quick, fun ride.

Sooooo . . . SoCal is like, this REALLY big place . . . . would help to know where you are.

There's tons of options though that are well suited for beginning riders.

If you're in HB I'd suggest Aliso-Woods as a good beginner area.

I will also be riding the fullerton loop again this saturday and its a great beginners trail.

Yeah it has really easy trails as well as some more advanced trails that you can build skills on. Also Crystal Cove (El Morro), and Whiting Ranch are good beginner areas and near you. I ride those areas with a group called VOZ (vozcycling.com), check us out. We're really beginner friendly.

    paseo miramar capri loop

Starting at 10 am at capri and sunset, up paseo miramar, through the hub, down sullivan ridge.

It take me three hours at most. I take a small break at the hub, and that's it.
not a racer's pace, but not a casual ride either. My time demands are high, so not too much hanging around.

Leaving no later than 10am at capri and sunset!

I'm confused by your loop . . . I don't understand how you get from Capri and Sunset to riding up Paseo Miramar. Perhaps I don't know where PM is . . .

I often ride UP sullivan ridge, over Mulholland to the Hub, then DOWN Will Rogers Backbone and back to the car. Its a nice 20+ mile loop with all the climbing on the front end.
Alcohol may lead nowhere, but it sure is the scenic route!

I'm local to the SM area and my regular loop includes sullivan ridge and the canyon. I'd happily show you what I know, but I'm out of town until Monday.
